    What happened to Recruiting Standards?

When I was at Sheridan, the general thought of the professors was that if someone is at risk of failing the course, it was less likely because the student could not grasp the material, and more that the professors had failed to teach that student effectively. To a point, this is likely true, but...

    The Woodworking Thread

I'll be helping my father to refurbish a rocking horse that my uncle made for my brother as a Christmas gift when he was a year old. As that same brother has a daughter who will be celebrating her first birthday in December, it's something of a point of pride in my family that it's come home...

    Recipes

I've been working on perfecting a couple of varieties of barbecue sauces and marinades. So far, the best one of the batch is as follows. Proportions are fuzzy, since I'm constantly adjusting them. This was one I came up with a few days ago. Sun Tzu's Barbeque Sauce All Warfare is based on...

What book are you reading now?

As we finally sorted out some of the last details of my grandfather's estate, I'm happy to say, I'm adding his papers to the list. While never published, he was an extremely prolific writer, so I have about 40KG of material to go through. And I even have his and my grandmother's typewriters..

HAPPY HALLOWEEN: A Haunting YouTube Playlist

Glad you enjoyed it. I have another, this one I know to be factual. When my grandfather was at the end of his life, lying in the hospital bed, my father and my aunt made sure that someone was always at his side. In his sleep, he would say and do some peculiar things, so when he woke up one...

    Civilian Medical Records

So gaps of "I only see him once every three years or so" is fairly commonplace?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN: A Haunting YouTube Playlist

Still in the process of confirming a few details (a bit difficult, given that the principal actor in the story, my grandfather, has been dead for nearly a year), but I can at least share the basic outline of the tale. For obvious reasons, I'm planning on a few embellishments and alterations to...

    Civilian Medical Records

As a result of my medical evaluation on the 24th, I've been given a few forms for my GP to fill out in relation to the treatment and diagnosis of something. The problem is, while I have been a patient at his practice my entire life (to the point that one of the founding doctors of the practice...

What book are you reading now?

Having the need to refill my reading list, I have a couple of non-fiction technical books that I'm going through, and a number of fiction works. The fiction works are as follows: Robert J. Sawyer (Wake, Watch, Wonder, Quantum Night, Red Planet Blues, Starplex, & Calculating God*) Adrian...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN: A Haunting YouTube Playlist

Would stories of personal experience be appropriate to share in this thread? I'd been debating making a video of myself telling the story. :)

    Waiting Game

Don't be. All it means that while I initially applied in late august last year, and was contacted to sit the CFAT in October, I didn't write it until January. I actually had my medical a year to the day of my grandmother's passing, because she would've loved the symbolism to it.

    Waiting Game

I'm not actually languishing. I put the brakes on everything for a few months due to having to help my father handle the affairs of the estate of my grandparents. Since I was extremely close to them, I wanted to get through the grieving process to remove the distraction it would create. I'm just...

    Federal Carbon Tax

Charging Canadians a tax like this is completely baffling if you know the slightest bit about ecology, sustainability dynamics (which my sister-in-law has a Master's Degree in), and environmental economics. Because of our absurdly low population density, we live in the planet's biggest carbon...

    Waiting Game

I think my Medical appointment went far better than I expected, as I was in and out within a half hour. Now all I have to do is get my GP take care of the paperwork and order the necessary tests.

The Best Bosses Are Humble Bosses

Of course you're a humble fighter pilot. You're Canadian.  ;D

    On Political Correctness

You, ah, could employ such individuals as mobile cover, but I'm sure there's regulations against that. :)

The Best Bosses Are Humble Bosses

Thank you. Truth be told - trying to be humble is difficult in the first place. I fail far more often than I am comfortable with, but I find that since those failings are motivated by an honest desire to better myself and those around me, they are quite excusable.

The Best Bosses Are Humble Bosses

Possibly. I think it *did* serve to demonstrate that the point of the original point is something that the company I'm involved with is striving to recognize, so it was a useful anecdote for other reasons.

Popular war movies depicting Canadian soldiers ...

I'd honestly like to see a movie about the 1859 Pig War.

Popular war movies depicting Canadian soldiers ...

I'm aware. Basically, the problem is that there aren't enough Canadian war movies.
