    Infrared Nonsense...

Something I always wondered about the thermal qualities of CADPAT is that thermal is basically body heat. So, wouldn‘t that basically mean the only way to prevent being lit up on a thermal sensor would be to insulate yourself so no body heat escapes? If that‘s so, your going to get hot pretty...

Atten. all Op Athena troops. Did this actually happen?

I can attest to the ignorance of Canadians regarding the military through my own personal ignorance: I for one didn‘t even know what a Canadian uniform looked like until I joined cadets six years ago. As well, all I have learned about Canada and its wartime history I have either gained through...

    The Haiti Super Thread- Merged

First, the defence minister said that we were not sending troops, then the foreign minister said that we would contribute to a stabilization force. Anyone else wondering what‘s going on?

Forget the Bads, How About The Goods?

We hear all the time on these boards about the shortcomings of the CF. Funding, old equipment, etc. My question is, what do we have in this army that‘s good? What experiences, opportunities and equipment do we have that our soldiers are happy with and that other countries‘ armed forces drool...

    if you join

Last time the reserves were mobilized for wartime service was World War 2. Since then, all reserve committments have been purely voluntary. Mobilization of the reserves on that scale requires an act of parliament. Come to think of it, were the reserves mobilized for the FLQ crisis or was that...

    Will the Canadian Military collapse?

I think with the amount of ambivilance that the Canadian government and people have regarding the military, all they would do is complain about the suddenly unemployed 58 000 people. Then, some contractors would make bids on lucrative bids worth more than the defence budget on taking care of...

    I‘m definitely joining Army Cadets

You‘re not alone. My parents were just as opposed to me joining cadets as well... except they flat out refused to sign on the dotted line for about 3 years! Yes, I was fifteen when I signed up, a very "old guy" indeed. I also had to find my own way there (riding Public Transit in uniform can...

    Wasting my life?

It‘ll be alot easier on you if you finish high school no matter what you do, especially if you decide that the military is not your thing in the long run.

What other kind of suppport would we be able to send then? I would be strongly opposed to sending financial aid, as who knows what that may be used to buy, or in whose pockets it will end up in.

    Close Quarter Combat (CQC) [Merged]

Take a look at ninjitsu (sp?) for hand to hand combat. That one is definately not for sport fighting. In my short time taking lessons, I was taught very little that would actually leave the other guy breathing afterwards. And all the moves were designed to end the fight within a handful of moves.

    Why Cadets are offensive?

I have to agree with Infanteer‘s assessment in that the cadet program of today is does very little to show kids what a military career can offer. I suppose this has been the case since the 1960s when the war-fighting-training element was removed from the cadet mandate. The air cadets were...

Volunteers who served in the Spainish civil war, just before WW2. Other than that, my knowledge about them is sketchy.

    The Haiti Super Thread- Merged

Perhaps it‘s exactly those growing pains that countries must go through to develop stable governments. I think at this point, the best solution would be to step back and let them deal with their own business without outside interference.
