    Remuster Question

PRes, but I know several people who have done remusters in the same direction in the regs.

    Remuster Question

I've been on a steady decrease since joining the CF, from 871 to 711 to 031, so there's no truth to that rumour.

Ranking females in the Canadian Army...

The whole WO/MWO/CWO/CSM/RSM/QM thing seems to be a sticky issue. While most WOs prefer simply "Warrant", I've had some who wanted to be called "Sir". Likewise, called a CSM MWO "Sir" and was jacked up. He wanted to be called "Sergeant Major". Another time I called a CSM WO "Sergeant Major" and...

Question for those in Highland Regiments

The Black Watch in Scotland used to make you come to attention on top of a mirror to ensure you were "regimental". While I've never heard of or seen any kind of official 'check', the people who are trying to sneak in with knickers on are usually found out.

    Canadians in Belgium 1944

Excellent! (Geez Michael, how did I know you would know the answers ;) ) I'll have him send you an e-mail, and thanks, once again, for your help. You're a veritable walking encyclopedia!

    Canadians in Belgium 1944

I have a friend whose currently working on some scale models involcing Canadian soldiers, and I need some information to make them accurate. They're in Belgium, around the area of Antwerp between September and October 1944 (give or take). Does anyone know which units would have been in this...

    Best Marches

Century of Progress is another good Canadian tune, and I'm fond of The Liberty Bell if only because it's the same march from the opening credits of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

    Reg Force in BC

Michael - I wasn't familiar with CFB Harvey, but I do remember Currie Barracks quite well. Where was Harvey located? And yes, there's a reason it's called "Redmonton" ;)

    Reg Force in BC

To answer the original question of why there is no full time army presence in BC: A while back, the base in Chilliwack was home to the Engineer Branch, the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering, the Canadian Forces Officer Candidate School (CFOCS), and supported all the army reserve...

Reserves and the RCMP (and Other Civilian Police)

Whatever jurisdiction it falls under, it still doesn't allow the RCMP to serve in the military, currently. One would imagine it would be a relatively simple matter for the federal government to write a piece of legislation stating the precedence of loyalties - if you're a federal or emergency...

All things LASIK surgery (aircrew/other -- merged)

Hansol: I would be very surprised if the wait time was only 3 months for PRK as the healing time from that type of surgery is substantially longer than with LASIK.

All things LASIK surgery (aircrew/other -- merged)

This seems to sum it up: "Laser refractive surgery will continue to be medically disqualifying for either entry into or retention in the Pilot classification."

Vision Questions Megathread, Categories, Problems etc.

To the best of my knowledge, you can have certain colour deficiencies in the infantry, and a couple other trades. Trades like Artillery and Engineer require colour vision though. All the CF Medical Standards information is available here...

Looking for - CADPAT Private Epaulets

Infanteer: ç = Alt+0231, é = Alt+0233, è = Alt+0232. If you're running Windows, click start, run, and type in "charmap". It will tell you everything you need to know. Oh, and I'm going to start using "Poitrinette", if only because it makes me laugh... as has the remainder of this thread. But...

Vision Questions Megathread, Categories, Problems etc.

OK, let's clarify a few things. 1. To get into the infantry you must have a visual category of V3. This means you must have no worse 6/120 (20/400) vision in either eye, uncorrected. Corrected, you must have 6/6 (20/20) in your better eye, and no less than 6/9 (20/30) in the other. Refs...

Vision Questions Megathread, Categories, Problems etc.

You need reasonably good vision without your glasses. This does not mean 20/20 vision, but you can't be legally blind either. However, if the only thing you can read on an eye chart is the great big "E" at the top, then you probably won't have a snowball's chance in he|| of getting into the...

Second Language Training ( SLT )

Ontario and Manitoba are also officially bilingual. I myself went through French Immersion and am fully bilingual, and have found the skill to be virtually useless here on the left coast. My current civilian job requires a fluency in French, but any other "bilingual" position I applied for out...

All things LASIK surgery (aircrew/other -- merged)

It depends on the type of surgery you have. Call your local recruiting office if you want to get specific details, but I think it's around a year at least.
