http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Columnists/Toronto/Peter_Worthington/2004/12/08/772461.html Deserter is not a draft dodger By PETER WORTHINGTON -- For the Toronto Sun While one can't guess what the refugee board will rule, from the evidence it's hard to conclude that Jeremy Hinzman deserted...

Philosophical Question - Dealing with Grief

...   I can't believe you just wrote that...   ;D   heres a couple more... The word good has many meanings. For example, if a man were to shoot his grandmother at a range of five hundred yards, I should call him a good shot, but not necessarily a good man -Chesterton...

Philosophical Question - Dealing with Grief

Heres one of the many examples of black (or dark) humour that comes to mind...   Based on what you know about him in history books, what do you think Abraham Lincoln would be doing if he were alive today? 1.   Writing his memoirs of the Civil War. 2.   Advising the President. 3.  ...

New Snowshoes...here are some pics for those that haven't seen them

thats another good point...bungee cords would have to become the standard method...  My unit had to do that once anyways, when we took both skiis and snowshoes out one time, for when we were still on roadways.

New Snowshoes...here are some pics for those that haven't seen them

Yeah the plastic worries me too.  My unit has a whole supply of back country skis, with plastic bindings.  After one winter ex, most of the bindings were wrecked/broken because the cold froze the plastic and both combat boots and mukluks shattered them.

Your best 'meeting a celebrity' story......

When I was younger I got to meet Curt Harnett, the famed shampoo commercial star (and he was in some kind of sporting event too...did pretty well if I recall...  >:D ) because his sister's family are good friends of ours.  So good in fact, that we bought their old house :)

    Acne

I was on acutane a few years ago...it worked alright, but it didn't entirely clear up.  I agreed to try a smaller dose for a while last year (my face was really drying out), and it helped a lot, and stopped again in september to go back to topical stuff...  so it does vary, and can take more...

    Shooting on Toronto city bus

I'm glad that the little girl is in stable condition, but this really bugs me.  It just shows a complete disregard for innocent people...firing a gun on a bus with 40 people?  you are bound to hit somebody who isn't involved in whatever arguement they had.  Utter disregard for life  >:(

W Bush comes to town and this floats to the top......hmmmmmmmmmmmm

IMHO the plan doesn't take into account how public support would react to attack...  Granted there wasn't as much opposition to war back then, but even in the war of 1812, the New England states basically sat the war out, and even considered seccession, because of the aggression towards British...

27 Nov 04: Canadian Patrol Shot at in Afghanistan

in this case no news is good news...there have been no recent Canadian deaths in Afghanistan since the suicide bomber at the beginning of the year.  If one is killed, it would definitely be on the news.  There are people in Canada who still care about the military.  :cdn:

Canadians in Afghanistan: A video record

IIRC the segment "Waging Peace" was not included with the history channel ones last year, i think, because i had only taped the first two when they were on, back to back...what part did it cover?

Remembrance Day: National holiday?/"Veterans' Day"? (merged)

I wouldn't mind it being a holiday in ON at all...  I had to move a course exam (scheduled for 11:30) to the afternoon so that I could attend the cenotaph ceremony with my unit...  :(

    Question of the Hour

Correct, it was the Mark III that most widely saw service, at least until they were ditched in favour of Lee Enfields. Lets not let this thread die, eh?  :warstory:

    Question of the Hour

Which version of the Ross Rifle (there were many) did Canadian soldiers ultimately take to the trenches of the First World War (to their misfortune)?
