Certain courses can be offered over weekends, such as BMQ, Driver Wheeled, Recce, and various others.  I don't know what courses cannot be taken, but they are planning on running a Basic Infantry Qualification locally now at my unit (operative word - planning) because of the course cancellations...

well i found more about the .50 cal story today, - the weapon was seized from a farm off of highway 61 (!), from drug dealers, who had it mounted in a window, and wanted to use it to protect their operation - the weapon was going to be used against police cruisers (and their occupants).

Speaking of weapons in Canada, the .50 cal at my local mil museum (in armoury) was donated by the OPP, because it was seized from some criminals (probably hell's angels) who only needed a small part to make it operational...Good thing the cops got there first.  But it makes you stop and think...  :o

oook - its reserve info, i think they run reg force courses year-round, since its a full-time commitment. 

It all depends on your area, but some units/garrisons hold weekend BMQs - if the numbers are enough.  I was originally going to be on one in February 2003, but it was cancelled, so I had to wait until the summer.

Well in my unit, we have several members of the O.P.P. and another unit has a city police member in it.  My new CO is with the CPR Police, so it is possible in other services, but I would imagine it would be very busy.
