Please explain the rationale- With loss of helicopters to budget cuts

Moose Jaw has been a training base for CF pilots for as long as I can remember. In it's heyday, "the Jaw" had app 100 "Tutor" aircraft (what the snowbirds fly) as jet trainers. It also had a "Base Rescue" flight of helicopters. Moose Jaw is now home to the "Nato Flying Training in Canada"...

Question for the Air Force types

Inch, Well said, and I agree- it's all about the money, and to the detriment of the rank. Use those same air forces you mentioned...many have career paths that allow a pilot to fly, and be paid for his/her knowledge, experience, and ability. At the same time, Pilots may also choose a career...

Question for the Air Force types

Sure he is- any bets his promotion is in before christmas? How many Lt pilots you seen? I've never seen one (operational anyway) that wasn't a Captain....you want to prove how much experience that Captain has as an Officer, and therefore deserving of that rank? Want to argue why she needs to be...

Question for the Air Force types

I think y'all are getting off track here. Anyone ever see a 2 Lt in charge of anything? Schools don't count, they make their own rules and live in their own world (and rightly so). Look around other Army's and you'll see 2 Lt leading troops- you won't see that here. In the CF, Lt is the...

Question for the Air Force types

I'd like to see the ranks revert to what they were...but couldn't care less what they were called. IMHO we're WAY "over-ranked", and many of the promotions/ranks have lost their zest. Anyone remember being jacked up by a "Lance-JacK"?...that's a one-stripe private. The stripe actually meant...

    Shooting on Toronto city bus

Hatchet Man, Agree 100%. However, longing for the "old days" won't change the fact that more and more scumbags are armed. The horrid thing of it is is that it's tough to defend yourself when one is armed and the other isn't. Wonder would these heroes would have opened fire if they knew that...

Flat-screen TV emits international distress signal

we had a huge problem with roughly the same thing: after market sattelite signal cards (made for stealing sattelite TV signals) were emitting interference on the Guard frequencies. The interference was so bad that aircraft in the landing pattern couldn't hear atc.

    Nova Scotia Power Outage

Question for you: I saw on the news where an individual that had lost power in NS was upset at the Power Corp. His words were "they knew it was coming, why didn't they do anything?" Made me wonder why, if the guy who lost power knew the storm was coming, and that he'd probably lose power, he...

young people are so soft these days

Have any of you heard of the concept of "personal responsibility?" Quit making excuses. Want to see who made you lazy? Look in the mirror. Cheers-Garry

Germany to Order 401 PUMAs to replace Marders.

Maybe we should tell them that a truly civilized country has no  need for a Military for anything other than peacekeeping. Besides, if there was a true threat, the world's remaining superpower would deal with it. Turn and face the ditch.........

    Any usefull info please!

well, you (like me some time ago) are in for a real shocker. First off, we Air Force people eat with knives and forks. No, really!! Don't worry, it's not that hard to catch on to, and actually it makes sense as (get ready for it) the Air Force expects us to keep clean all the time- NOT just on...

What Should the Army's Role, Capabilities & Structure Be?

not to hijack the thread or anything, but anyone wearing a uniform who doesn't realise that his SOLE purpose in Military life is to support the 19 year old infanteer with muddy knees and a bloody bayonet had better re-examine his/her career. Yes, our Fighter Force may well rid the skies of the...

    Heavy lift conundrum

Forget heavy, think strategic vice tactical airlift. Strategic lifts big loads long distances. tactical lifts smaller loads shorter distances. Strategic tends to avoid bad guys. tactical may well see a few. Our Airbus is a strategic carrier, our Hercs are a tactical carrier.  We do what what...

    Aerospace Control Officers-AEC [merged]

TrasnAT, As with much of life, the job appeals to certain types of individuals, with different reactions to the stresses and demands. Keep in mind that there is no such thing as an air traffic controller anymore, the trade has merged with the (old) air weapons control trade to form the (new)...

Your thoughts on this: The Leapord C2 is not a Tank

Lance, Well said. Historically, Tanks provided Mobility, armour protection, and firepower. Mobility and armour protection were always a trade off, as the earlier tank power trains and suspension couldn't move a very heavy platform effeciently. The Leopard was one of the first tanks to have a...

Great Names in the Royal Canadian Armour Corps

Geez, nobody mentioned me...:) Worked for Walt (can't spell his last name), Rosseau, and Hillier- I'll echo my respect for all three. Had Atkinson as a young Lt, thought he did very well. The list of outstanding NCO's I've worked with would fill a book. Cheers-garry

    TAC HEL

The Kiowa Warrior ("D" model, with the large ball on top) is near the perfect platform for us. It is more like a new aircraft than an up-engined Kiowa: it has a four bladed rotor, much bigger engines, and an avionics/sensor package that really works well. Maybe best of all (imho) is that all...

    Any CF-18 pilots here

not a Hornet driver (fortunately), but (unfortunately) am surrounded by them. What's your question?

    TAC HEL

George, ya bum, you're opening up old wounds..... For the record, I was a Tac Hel Observer, and imho we added a tremendous resource to the Commander. It was a sad day when we lost the platform, and in another few years we'll have lost the expertise. Sadly, once it's gone, we will not get it...
