    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

On the basis that the program is roughly 10 years behind its original timeline and the industry partners basically laughed at the original RFQ spec's which means our team leaders didn't know what they were doing?

So key question:. Has anyone been fired yet? Not re-assigned. Not transferred. Fired If no one has, there is no real accountability and nothing will ever change.

Kurdistan Referendum/Other Developments (split fm Op IMPACT)

The first thing you need to realize is "The Pehmerga" is not really a monolith.  They are in fact smaller fighting units affiliated with the individual politcal parties of Kurdistan.  They have fought together as their interests were aligned. In this case it appears that the PUK party cut a...

Even if it starts as "fitted for but not with", limiting the design to 32 cells certainly appears to limit the design going into an unknown future.

Does the RFQ specify a number of "Strike Length" cells in the Mk.41 VLS?    :salute:

Not being a naval architect by trade, doesn't the helicopter deck seems a little closer to the waterline given the seas we operate in?  :salute:

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Trudeau is adored by his fans. If he reverses course he won't lose a single vote from his core.  I also think he has laid significant ground work as to why the Boeing deal won't fly, so if he changes plans I don't think it hurts him at all.

Kurdistan Referendum/Other Developments (split fm Op IMPACT)

Although strongly in favour of eventual Kurdish independence, I think the current timing is VERY dangerous for them and I'm hopeful the current move is a negotiating tactic to get maximum concessions from the government in Baghdad, as well as US & EU donor countries. I think in a few years...

Theater & Continental Balistic Missile Defence . . . and Canada

The peaceniks are a truly silly group. What they don't comprehend is that: 1.  The NK leadership are batshit crazy, do not see the world as we do and therefore negotiating with them based on our western values and ideals is hopeless. 2.  They give zero thought to the 10's of millions imprisoned...

It always disappoints me to see politicians admit that they are following the sheep, instead of leading them....

I appreciate your gut feeling.  It's far more valuable than anything I bring to the table in this discussion. Thank SSM.  :salute:

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

@ SupersonicMax.... Any thoughts on how this is all going to play out? It feels like Boeing has fumbled the ball with the Bombardier sanctions to the point it will now be "Anything but the SuperHornet.", which re-opens the door to the F-35, as well as potentially the Rafale if Trudean & Macron...

Air Canada Near Miss in SF

Noob Question:  Shouldn't a pilot have to do simulator time for new airports, prior to flying to them for the first time?  Sending them in blind for their first flight seems really dumb-dangerous given the technology we have today.

    All Things Air Defence/AA (merged)

Colin P:  "While the .50cal could be used in a twin or quad mount, likely better to have 20mm-25mm as a minimum to get the reach and hopefully some proximity fuzed rounds, to improve hit rate." Me:  Just looking at effective ranges, those types max out at about 2,000 m, while the 35mm and 40mm...

    All Things Air Defence/AA (merged)

So just to re-cap: 1.  Individual Infantry with unintegrated MANPADS is a non-starter.  By definition then, we need to start looking at an integrated-networked system as a base. 2.  There is general agreement that small UAS providing targeting information is a far greater threat than fast movers...
