With a small pack like that I'm always synching the straps up tight so the waist belt is at about my boob level. And it doesn't take any weight off the shoulders because the frame isn't built into the belt.
Regiment tartans aren't just invented. Research what pattern the tartan is, it'll have some scottish family name, and then you can just look for that online and you'll be able to buy things in it.
I just spent a lot of money on 5 under armour t-shirts (olive green) and 5 pairs of under armour black boxers. I think it's worth it.. a sweat drenched cotton shirt is a big piss off of mine and it was a pain in the ass last summer; ass sweat.. don't even get me started.
