Excuse the sidebar...
I'm trying to create an accurate cost estimate for my HHT. I have a daughter who is under 2 years old. I can't find anything that says she gets less than the full meal rate...yet it seems ridiculous for her to get the full meal rate. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
RT
The answer you are looking for is in the relocation directive available online without registration.

That's what I'm trying to figure out as well...my understanding is that you can continue using the card as a visa until it expires OR you can take the remainder deposited into your bank account as a DFT...for a 1.5% surcharge.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...someone....please tell me...
Whether you can get away with a TD account is, in my experience, highly dependent on where you live. They don't have any brick and mortar banks west of North Carolina I believe. I found their method of moving cash between accounts tedious and cumbersome. I even had to place a phone call to...
Hello all,
MATA/PATA question regarding IMR and Extended parental benefits:
The gov't website states: "To provide more flexibility for Canadian Forces members, the EI parental benefit eligibility period can be extended up to a maximum of 104 weeks."...
Thank you both for the info. I guess I didn't realize that a) SAR gets a lot of nonsense calls similar (I imagine) to 911 dispatch in a big city and b) they are responsible to respond to said nonsense.
I think I would enjoy the compilation

A slight tangent but can anyone explain the numbers I've quoted below from the article:
"This is just one example of more than 10,000 SAR incidents that occur each year. Around 1,200 are considered life-and-death situations."
Is this world wide or strictly in Canada? I feel I am let to believe...
The pay scales are available here:
http://www.forces.gc.ca/en/caf-community-pay/reg-force-class-c-officer-rates.page
At the bottom of the page is an explanation of the pay levels:
A - ROTP (former CBI 204.2111 & 204.2151)
B - OCTP-NFS (former CBI 204.2113 & 204.2153)
C - DEO (former CBI...
The CF AE Flt is a lodger unit in Trenton belonging really to 1CAD in Winnipeg. Its complement is just a handful of nurses and techs as well as a PA as Sergeant Major and an HCA. They fly missions on a semi-regular basis (vague, I know) around Canada and the world transporting patients who have...
My wife is also employed here in the US and so has had to file a US tax return and pay US taxes. The taxes paid are minimal however...much less than in Canada. The tax credit she has on her Canadian return will not cover what the gov't wants from her...so she will have to pay them as well. In...
Thank you all for the insight...
I just got off the phone with the CRA (who were remarkably nice, patient and helpful) and it breaks down like this...
Because my wife worked for the CAF in 2015 she is a deemed resident for this tax year.
For 2016, she will become a factual resident (We don't...
On a separate note...as tax season is fast approaching...does anyone have experience with (Canadian) taxes for a spouse working in the US (specifically one on LWOP)? The main question is deemed resident or factual resident?
I filed for my US Visa less than a week AFTER returning from my HHT, so I had a residential address on the form. I submitted my green passport application before my visa application and when the passport was done it was passed to the visa people and then returned to me. It was very efficient and...
Now that is fantastic advice. Not just for immunizations but certificates, quals, letters... Everything. You may never need it but for the 30 seconds it takes to scan and save a document, the one time you do need it will make it worthwhile.

Thank you all for your responses. I never thought it would be such a big deal to bring a car into the US for 3 years....but here I am. What I am trying to do really is just keep it legal. God forbid I get into an accident in the US and my...
