Hmmm, it appears I'm not alone re: small carriers....

would the The UK Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers be a good choice or a smaller version of the  Arleigh Burke Class Aegis destroyer which i think would be out of our pay scale.

Hmmm, it appears I'm not alone re: small carriers....

Is the government planning to keep two different types of ships after the 280 retire.  I think they are planning to replace the frigates in 2020 and the 280 are staying in service till around 2012. I read an article saying they want to replace both with one ship type numbering 16 to 18 ships

Hmmm, it appears I'm not alone re: small carriers....

would all four of the ships be based on the Rotterdam class Landing Platform Dock (LPD) and one having a command suite on it. I still think having a separate AOR ship is better for example the patino class AOR would fit the bill. So i would get three ships based on the Rotterdam class Landing...

$8 Billion Surplus to be announced

so the 800 million the military got in new money now they have to give back 700 million back and that does not even help the military since they have a 1.2 billion dollar shortfall in funding nice really nice.

    Heavy lift conundrum

one word and that is "Price" $236.7 million (FY98 constant dollars) that is American not Canadian and it probably costs more now so getting 4 to six c-17 would cost about 2 billion to get them and that may not include spare parts.  With money like that you should be able to get more then 4 to 6...

$8 Billion Surplus to be announced

They give with one hand and take away with the other sad to say it will always be that way i think under any government.  Tell the people they are giving the military more money and later take away under the cover of darkness.

Hmmm, it appears I'm not alone re: small carriers....

I agree with Ex-Dragoon on this; it would be nice to be able to have a ship like that but we have to work on getting a replacement for the destroyers and the mid-life refit of the CPF first.  The three JSS ships that may come our way will have the capability of transporting more equipment then...

    Heavy lift conundrum

If the Royal Air force can lease to own c-17 i think we could do the same. The Americans would be happy to sell us some but i doubt that the liberals would spend the money to get them.

    Short-service Army

I just read a interesting article in the Ottawa Citizen talking about short service terms.  The article is written by a journalist who talked to John English a retired Lt. Col who spent 37 years in the military.  To summarize the article he says that we should move all the generals into the...

$8 Billion Surplus to be announced

You can say that again.  We really need new airlift fast or we are not going to have anything to transport what little equipment the gov gives the CF

$8 Billion Surplus to be announced

I almost forgot yes the liberals do lie about how much money the collect which is very bad.  With that amount of money they could buy new subs and destroyers that we need. 8)

$8 Billion Surplus to be announced

Paying the debt down is a very good thing.  It means we spends less on interest and can start to spend more on other things or even a tax break.

CTV News Report from Faslane! Slag Off

Most of the media does not do there research, if you noticed they always seem to find experts that give them info that they work from.

    Do Canadians even care anymore?

politicians need to get reelected every four to five years and really don't have the time of day to care about what the CF needs in the future.  They will say what they have to, so as to get reelected.  For the military as we all know needs to plan 10 to 15 years in the future for purchases of...

Canadian Submarine Capabilites (What can they do? Do we need them?)

Well we have them now except for one and unless the government is willing to buy us four new subs like the u212 or 14 from germany i don't see any other option.  We are going to have to live with what we have and take the lumps.  It is that or not having an subs which do you want. cheers.
