The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

If we're expected to fly and maintain as a sole country the fighter for an additional 15 -20 years after the US Navy retires theirs, then yes, we do need a better aircraft.  The Eagle is slated to be in service until the 2050's and perhaps even into the 2060's in countries that are considered...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Just because we have legacy Hornets doesn't mean they are at all similar to Super Hornets.  Matter of fact, many believe that our current legacy Hornets are actually better than Supers.... So while an Eagle may cost more, it's definitely a better platform that a Super Hornet.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Suggestion from someone like you who isn't an expert; any Strike Eagle variant can meet Canada's needs when it comes to air to air and air to ground combat, complete with weaponry and sensors that make it viable in any global theatre. Only thing is, Boeing wants to sell us the Super Hornet...

    CF-188 Hornet, Canada's jet fighter

A day late...but I shot this bird out in Cold Lake back in 2012.  It's callsign was often Nightmare 01. Cheers. 409 Nightmare by Attila Papp, on Flickr

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Good2Golf, you want us, Canada, to pay for the development of a plane that isn't even in production yet in the Silent Eagle; how much money do you really think we'll have left after the cuts to DND are done? You have a problem with an air superiority fighter that has made the transition to the...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I realise what you're stating, RoyalDrew; I just ask that you do some research on which countries already use variants of the F-15E Strike Eagle before writing me off. Cheers.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

So I thought I'd start this thread to get the debate rolling.... My vote goes to the SLAM Eagle.  I've stated the reasons previously. Here's a question to ponder; could a competition be held that would exclude the F-35 as mentioned by the Liberals?

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I said the F-15SG...not the F-15SE which hasn't even been developed yet.  The cost for that would be astronomical. The cost of the F-15K (SLAM Eagle) in 2006 was approximately $100M; this plane is similar to the SG variant.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

And what would be a better option?  The current pod and the technology are in use on various strike and multirole platforms around the world with no negative feedback...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Compared to the Super Hornet they are not disasters at all.  The concern about an ever growing part shortage is one budgeting issues which sees less money put aside for spare parts; that's a political issue.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I don't disagree, and the C-17's are good too....just wish the fighter crowd would get something that isn't already 20 years old. :(

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

If you want to maximize payload, the best option (IMO) would be the SLAM Eagle or even the F-15SG variant; with the radar upgrades and the ability to carry an enormous payload with a huge loiter time compared to other aircraft, there is nothing that comes remotely close to it.  Along with the...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Our current legacy Hornets are more maneuverable, costs less to maintain, has a greater ferry range, greater climb rate, can carry all the munitions needed to perform in NORAD and NATO operations, has a kick ass mission computer, stores management system, and the sniper pod it uses is the best...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

As I've stated before....give me SLAM Eagles and -35's. With regards to the Super Hornets...our current legacy fleet of Hornets are a better platform then the SH's. Late edit - in the sense that we can carry a versatile paylod and, according to pilots I have spoken with, can more than handle...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Super Hornet...one of JT's leading candidates was a Hornet pilot (not an upgraded Hornet) who was recently trying to convince everyone online that the Super Hornet was the better option for Canada. I wonder now what the implications of a SH buy will be....while the rest of the world continues...

A new Avro Arrow (or Super Arrow) instead of the F-35 (Merged thread)

Just for the sake of being up to date....a posting today from Bourdeau Industries facebook page.  Bolding added by me.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

His attempts were less than successful...I could go into more detail but I'm not about to disclose on a public forum conversations that I've had in private. His assessment of Canada's needs is very politically based. To me it's no surprise that the party wants to eliminate the F-35 from...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Here's your answer....they appear to be listening to Stephen Fuhr, an ex Hornet pilot, who I know has been on FB saying that Canada should get the Super Hornet and not the F-35. Don't get me started...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Agree with most of what you typed, but this last bit; I wouldn't go so far as to say the Viper virtually killed the non US aerospace industry.  One can take a look at Eurofighter as well as Sukhoi and see that they've maintained a consumer base.  That being said, the -35 will be providing the...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

They have a total of 100 A's and B's in service currently.  They are similar to the upgraded CF-18's that we fly which I believe are identified as CF-18AN's, or something to that effect... Supersonic Max can confirm...
