    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Would have to respectfully disagree with you. During a competition certain features which are normally classified are declassified which opens the door to a greater number of characteristics evaluations which could be done. I still think that the F-35 would win, make no mistake. I'd just like...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

The current Legacy Hornets that we fly are a better option that the Super Hornet.  Imports from Europe aren't an option, never have been or will be. Agreed, the only real viable option is the F-35A. That being said, I feel that a competition against the SLAM Eagle would be an interesting one...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

It isn't much more expensive....please do some research.  It's actually on par and cheaper than other we've mentioned.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Actually no, any option ISN'T better than the F-35. Especially the Rafale, which is more costly and the weaponry is totally different from what we have on store.

Follow up; with that being said, $100M or so isn't too bad with that much capability in the long run.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Not surprised actually...just feel it would be a better fit than the Super Hornet option; not the F-35 option. :)

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Only problem would be we would have to fund the testing and development of it...it being the Silent Eagle. That would cost a lot. Hence why the SLAM would be good...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

All the more reason the SLAM Eagle should be pitched instead of the Super Bug..apart from the fact that it's a far better and capable platform.

No - engines have been a separate buy ever since the F-16A came about.

I appreciate your response especially given all the traffic. While it is an interesting notion, I doubt that EWP’s will be created for multiple airframes apart from the Super Hornet.  The reasons are various, but ultimately the goal here is to make a 4th or 4.5 generation platform into a low...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I appreciate that you're a legend and I respect your views; I just happen to think this one is a non starter. The pod itself would be on a centreline for the Hornet; this space is already occupied by the -35's internal weapons bay. Plus I don't think that Boeing would play nice and share tech...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

A self escorting bomb truck...there's a bit of a difference there.  Hence why the term multirole is so prevalent. This is one of the reasons why the F-35 is quite the viable platform; its ability to carry internally a total of 8 small diameter bombs along with 2 AMRAAM's while maintaining its...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

This; part of the reason the Hornet (both Super and Legacy) has two engines is due to the fact that a single engine doesn't spool quickly enough in the event the aircraft has to bolter after a missed carrier arrest.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Again...how is this news?  They developed the Raven, the Prowler, and the Growler to protect existing fleets...and I'm quite certain the planes they were protecting, including Eagles, Tomcats, Vipers, and others, surely cost in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Again.... ::)

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Are we really supposed to take this seriously?  There are 3 platforms realistically made specifically for a2a engagements; the Eagle, the Raptor, and the Typhoon.  Every other design has been multi role from the start, except for the Viper which is now showing its versatility in the a2g arena...

A-10 Warthog to be retired by USAF (maybe)

From the article... And to this point... I don't know why you think that CAS can't happen from a platform like the Hornet, Strike Eagle, or even the F-35.  With the advancement of JDAMS and targeting systems it's a lot more efficient than having something low and slow over extremely hostile...

A-10 Warthog to be retired by USAF (maybe)

Like the plane, but there are other options when it comes to CAS and anti tank destruction platforms. The Apache comes to mind...

A new Avro Arrow (or Super Arrow) instead of the F-35 (Merged thread)

Why have 2 platforms when 1 can do it all in the F-35? Canada will never develop its own fighter capability, nor will countries like Australia and the UK partner with us, as they are both invested in the F-35 program. As well, why would we only want a platform for 20-30 years when the...

    CP-140 Aurora

Couldn't agree more. I'm just tired of the Forces in general being the department that budgets are balanced on...gets to the point where I no longer have any idea who to vote for. Sincerely, A Civvy who cares.
