    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

The Eurofighter was found in a German journal dd 17 June 2009. It is sourced on Wikipedia. I'm sorry, but how is the unknown cost of a Gripen NG or the Eurofighter much much cheaper than the F-35A Canada is looking at? These numbers are from the US DOD for FY2014.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche III is 90M Euros, which would make it approximately $150M a copy. The Gripen C/D is the cost that you noted, however, it is expected that SAAB will offer the Gripen NG for which there is no cost estimate at this time. F-15SE - it hasn't even entered production and...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Wouldn't the DAS on the F-35, or even better the combination of the DAS' on a 2 or 4 ship of F-35's, be an aid to any GBAD as it would relay the positions of potential adversaries from a greater sphere to those on the ground?

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

They're fighting for the US to lift the ban on F-22 exports and also want to bring back their fleet of F-111's. In general, they are mocked by those who actually know something, anything, actually, about air defence.

I really don't understand why you're trying to become just like the regular reporters who report on this in the main stream media. Canada's current fleet of CF-18's are good until 2025.  That's 12 years from now.  So tell me, where is it that our fighter force is crumbling, especially when one...

They've participated in both the Yugoslavian campaign and more recently in Libya.  They also have experience conducting intercepts in Canada's north.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I'm not saying it's not political. I am saying that the only people I trust to speak on the matter surrounding the technology and capabilities being discussed are the those in the military who are familiar with the project or at the very least have experience in a fast air environment.  Which...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

LOL....sorry, but I really only go by what DND states because as I've stated before this acquisition was handled poorly on the political side of things.

Obviously not, but I do speak with them on a daily basis. You?

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Would love to see your source for that one... I think that, in order to save money, they'd participate in the training package in the US which will be set up similarly to what the NFTC setup is up here.  Then they might still keep 410 as an advanced training cadre before being deployed to a gun...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I like your breakdown. I just think that the OT portion will be completed down in the US as part of the bigger training mandate which was put forth which would include instructor pilots from the various partner countries. Once again, there are options on the table and since we're not getting...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Let's see...there are 77 CF-18's currently in service.  15 of those go to 410 for training purposes.  That left 62 between the two TFS for deployment.  If we estimate that 5 of that fleet are in the hanger for maintenance, then it drops the number to 57.  That means with 57 aircraft available we...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Thanks, I know what the options are.  But if you think that Canada is going to put the current fleet of CF-18's beyond a 2030 window then I think that you're being very short sighted.  The cost of maintenance would be more than what we would be paying to maintain a new fleet.  I've said before...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I'd like to apologize, I made an error about the Gripen and potential offsets. SAAB as per the article below has given the Swiss aviation industry the largest chunk of Gripen E components for manufacture, which says a lot about the company...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Ok then, we'll just fly the CF-18's for the next 50 years.  After all, they are good enough to get the assigned task done. But wait..keeping them flying....that would cost a lot of money.  So that's not a good idea.  Are there alternatives?  Why yes!  How about one of the following that gives...

Oh please...he's talking about drones. Show me what manned fighter comes after the F-35 and I might give it consideration, but don't compare a quote made about drones to that of a manned fighter aircraft.

And here's a nice, little read about the Super Hornet Navy programs.....not all it's cut out to be, is it? http://www.dote.osd.mil/pub/reports/FY2012/pdf/navy/2012fa18ef.pdf

I don't see how it could be, after all if the Super Hornet radar is an upgrade over the legacy radar then why not get the best radar block available? But while we're on the topic of the Super Hornet's AN/APG-79 radar, do you think you'll ever read that it had the following problems during its...
