    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I'm sorry, but what makes you think that was the reason it was disqualified over other aircraft?  What about the multi role capability? What about cost? How about regional benefits? How about low observability?  If the DAS isn't present and the F-35 had to use the AN/APG-77 of the Raptor or...

*SARCASM*  Oh, you know...the one that says "Must meet with approval of internet folks."  *SARCASM* Seriously....the plane won't be in Canadian hands for another 7 years and you're complaining already about what it can't do before they even enter our service?  With more than a few years of...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Hey, I thought I was the one with the pom poms?  :P In all seriousness, the report cited above could have been written about any fighter platform during any stage of their development. By the time all the cards are on the table and the purchase has to be made, the F-35 will be chosen simply...

So they may fly fewer numbers...but those fewer numbers come as a result of having the capability to have them in the first place....not because the price of the F-35 is high, but because the cost of a carrier is.

    Possible Cuts Scenario...

It's one thing to talk about it all...but to see it on paper is something else. http://www.news4jax.com/blob/view/-/18308172/data/1/-/1079om2z/-/Navy-fiscal-actions.pdf?format=rss_2.0

Is there a penalty for exceeding the cap?  Apart from the obvious political ones....

So...two fleets are impossible....hehe It'll be just like Australia - Super Dupers with Growler upgrade wiring included and then F-35's.

So if the testing works out, it looks like the F-35A will be able to maintain its LO standard while carrying up to 8 SDB II's and 2 AMRAAM's.... More at the link ->  http://www.equities.com/news/headline-story?dt=2013-01-22&val=949760&cat=tech

That sounds like a why to me...the entire link is here -> http://www.rcaf-arc.forces.gc.ca/v2/page-eng.asp?id=1437 As well, from what I'm reading, there's still a lot of talk as to "fifth generation" technology.  Some would consider the LO characteristics to be the biggest technological factor...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

The USAF puts drop tanks on their F-22's when patrolling their own airspace, thus not maximizing their stealth potential.  The reality is that for northern intercepts stealth isn't a factor, regardless of the platform.  Stealth becomes an asset when engaged in an enemy environment in which the...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

From your very article.... That's after the Balkans and through the entire Afghanistan campaign.  Since the upgrades took a total of 10 years to complete, the RCAF didn't have the chance to use tech which would have made them even greater assets in both Yugoslavia and in Afghanistan.  Had the...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Kirkhill, Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you're stating and to all others keep in mind that the reduced number of proposed F-35's purchased totally fits within the outlines which Kirkhill noted above. What concerns me the most is the text which I highlighted. Simply using CF-18's as...

I would kindly suggest you do a little bit more humanint before you try to tell me who I am, what I do, and how this country operates.  I could make presumptions about you, but I don't so I would kindly ask that you don't do the same to me.

Nowhere did I say that they should be either self policing or self identifying requirements.  I simply believe that if we, as a nation, expect our military to do a job, that when the time comes to buy new equipment to fulfill whatever the mandate of the government is, that we shouldn't worry...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Having new aircraft is going to play a part of having protection for our arctic region.  You can't have all the things that you mentioned and not have a platform capable of engaging airborne threats, whether they be in the form of bombers or fighter aircraft. As to the comment about what the...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Ya, I know.  I'm just not a fan of everything being looked at strictly by cost, as the only thing I hear when I think about that is that the cheapest platform should be the winner of the current process. Capability, IMHO, should be what is looked at first - not what we can get for the lowest...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Just wondering out loud here, but I think Boeing might be doing themselves a disservice by promoting the Super Hornet over the SLAM Eagle. Yes, it's more expensive to operate, but at least it has some international sales to back it up while at the same time exceeding the capabilities and...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Opinion only, not necessarily factual.  Consider F-16's in Alaska which patrol the entire pacific rim in conditions that are worse than most here in Canada.  Also consider that there have been fewer F-16 engine incidents vs F-18 engine incidents.

Just to show you how ridiculous this is getting, have a listen to what one of our political leaders said about the F-35. Opposition Leader Thomas Mulcair on Global TV’s The West Block came up with these gems during his interview, linked below. @ 4:12 – “the plane doesn’t exist yet.” @ 4:42 –...
