As you well know, you understand your role in theatre after 4-5 months but you also begin to focus on going home and you begin to lose your focus (I'm sure you have seen that stupid chart back in Bosnia about complacency, etc). "Hardening" up is affected by casualties and HLTA, anyway isn't it...
Potentially it could be similar but the air force focusses on tradesman (aircraft tech does the same thing in Camp Mirage as he does in Trenton, etc). Bring a platoon in, 1 week to sort itself out, and then it is off on ops lasting ~3 weeks, in for a 2-3 day break, back out for ~3 weeks, and...
How about short/high tempo tours of 2-3 months for platoons or companies? Fast rotations in and out of theatre as well as keeping the platoons/companies cohesive for longer periods of time?
Go!!! I would submit that you have no idea what Capt Peterson actjally said to the reporter. You are reacting to the reporter's (and his/her editor's) interpretation of Capt Peterson's comments.
Postage is non-issue, it is the space it takes on airplanes that is the issue.
In addition to the document you provided, IIRC there was also a CANFORGEN in Fall 2005 stating they were entitled to the CPSM. If they are still waiting to be awarded the CPSM....sounds like their chain of command has some issues ...
If you look at your link, on the last page, it states that they are entitled to the CPSM "MIF (Multinational Interim Force in Haiti) (7 March - 20 May 2004) (Op HALO)". Whether the mission is given a Chapter 6 or 7 mandate has little to do with whether the CPSM is given.
Numerals are used by the UN but not by NATO (except the original FRY medal). Moreover, our history and heritage did not permit numerals for campaign medals (Ever see a northwest Europe Campaign Star with a 2 or 3 on it?).
The SWASM was awarded and is still awarded (denoted with Afghanistan...
Murray was tainted by the Somalia inquiry and the government wanted to start afresh. He retired and went to work with an aerospace firm (Boeing?) and worked alot less, less responsibility and made more money.
A short list will be forwarded to cabinet to make a decision. There is alot of talent out there right now (Leslie, Natynczyk, etc) that would carry on Gen Hillier's reforms as well as style.
Anderson was CDS for a short time and "resigned" over the cancellation of the MHP. VAdm Larry Murray was the A/CDS after Boyle was punted. I didn't know him well but he was a fine gentleman the few times I dealt with him and he was well regarded by others I've spoken to.
Exactly MCG. There are many soldiers from LFCA who served in Kabul (some twice) and received the General Campaign Star. These soldiers are now serving for their second or third tour in Afghanistan, down in Kandahar, and they will be recognized as having completed two or three tours in...
Patrolman, there are lots of deployments not seeing medals but the actions of its members are recognized (including Op HALO). We have teams training (IMATT) the Sierra Leone Army (RSLAF) who do not receive medals, we have soldiers on their 2nd or 3 rd tour of Afghanistan under Op ARCHER or Op...
Go!!!, the only problem with your post is you are insinuating the introduction of ethnic minorities and woman are the cause for drug probolems in the military. This is completely wrong as anyone who was in the CF in the 70s/80s will tell you. Our "insular society of soldiers and their...
Count me with those supporting mandatory drug testing. It has been a very long time coming and should have been instituted back in the 80s when it was first looked at. Weapons, Heavy Machinery and drugs do not work well together.
