OK, I just did the Favourite War Movies. Let's try books, an be fact or fiction. In no order Birdsong A Very Long Engagement Enemy at the Gates (I know you will all say it is full of mistakes, but good pulp fiction none the less) Winged Dagger: Adventures on Special Service Death's Men I...

Pte. Robert Costall killed in Afghanistan firefight 29 Mar 2006

I remember when the deployment to Kandahar was in the news and I said to my wife that soldiers could be coming home dead from this mission.  She seemed surprised that this was a possibility.  She is not from a military family and never really keeps track of the military/foreign affairs. We were...

    Dog the Bounty Hunter

Look as I sit here stroking my Mullet.  I think we all need to understand that this guy is pumping it up for the camera's.  I have been watching this gong sow for a while.  Yes, I also stop at car crashes, it's just....I can't help it. In the early shows he appears somewhat "normal", as normal...

Canadian Public Opinion Polls on Afghanistan

One of the points that has been touched on is education (Gnplummer).  When I came back from Yugo in the early 90's I remember being in a university class on international peace and conflict resolution.  My "classmates" could not understand why you would need things like TOW, or M113s on a...

    Armed Medics

Thanks but it makes me wonder if the CG is antiquated in today's conflicts.  The majority of which are not traditional.  It seems like were are playing the same sport but with different rules.

    Armed Medics

Is the CG a: 1-reciprocal agreement between the signatories or 2-a proclamation of the signatory countries intentions/action during conflict I guess the question is do you only owe the duty(s) set out in the CG to those who are signatory.

    Canadian medics aid Afghan village

I remember doing a similar thing in Yugo.  The locals would come with problems you knew where not medical, ie: sanitation issues, and yet all they wanted was a pill.

When I was in Croatia in the early 90's, I had a C7 (with C79) and if I recall our amb tracks had .50's on them.

    The Seal Hunt Mega-Thread

I think sending Pam in is an excellent tactic on Peta's part.  Who could concentrate on the issue(s) at hand with Pam standing in front of you marking double time.    :o

    Question?

I agree, I was p*ss poor with the C1, but found I could actually be a respectible shot with a C7.  I remember even older fella's telling me about FN's being run over by a MLVW and not breaking, probably an urban myth..

    Ridiculous Experiences and other foolishness

Not sure if this has been started before but..... What are some experiences. I remember when I was getting out, my clothing docs had been changed over from the paper to computer.  For some reason the sex was completed as female (perhaps an editorial on my soldiering skills?), and kit was added...

CDN Hostage James Loney Rescued by SAS in Iraq

Have I just not been paying attention or was this the only rescue or attempted of hostages in Iraq?  Have there not been a number of other hostages taken, ie: press, and other workers.....It does seem strange these fella's ranked a rescue BTW, I agree, they should have been left to there own...

    Question?

As I recall, and it is a murky memory, the FN was very good at reaching out and touching someone from a long distance.  There was a feeling the "new" battlefield was going to shorten and the C7 was a better choice.  Also, isn't more damage from the C7 round (at shorter distances) due to it's...

"Push with the cock you have." I seem to recall riding in M113s that were older than me. However, who knew that all that time watching old Vietnam movies would come in handy when faced with a broken radio......
