The sword belt being worn outside the Navy DEU tunic looks so odd, actually the first time I've ever seen it worn like that despite hearing anecdotes of people doing this from time to time on parade.
Congrats to the good MO, certainly one of the most prestigious trauma positions in Canada. I'm assuming that he is a reservist now despite returning to Kandahar in 2011?
I always find the cadpat slip-ons impossible to read until the last second. Much easier to spot the ranks when they're gold on black for most pers on a naval base
I just came across this thread and thought the above post was interesting. I've never heard of this but was surprised that nobody on the forums 'refuted' it as well so perhaps there's a grain of truth in it??? Does somebody have a reference for this about when and were this would apply?
Its quite amazing the amount of news coverage this has received across Canada over the past 24 hrs, this has certainly brought the naval ships/lack of ships issue to the forefront.
I personally like the idea of having one CF standard for basic in all three elements. However, I think that unlike how Basic is currently conducted (being completely army-centric), this should be a truly tri-service course that provides military indoctrination, trains, and introduces the member...
Apologies for all the article posts but I thought this quote from the CMS on the name 'Maritime Command" was also interesting in this CTV article:

Article on CTV about the announcement with a nice picture of the curl on a Canadian uniform.

Navy marks centennial by reinstating 'executive curl'
HALIFAX — After serving 43 years...
Centennial video looks great, but I suspect this has more to do with the fact it was created by the recruiting people (or whatever company this is outsourced to) rather than the centennial committee.
I took a look at the links on the DIN. FSTO is right, basically as official as possible without an announcement. One note I would like to make is that in the project description for the executive curl, it states that "Officer cadets will retain the current CF rank insignia without the...
This is definitely really cool, amazing the technological advancements we have nowadays. It'd be interesting to see how this actually works in a video!
I think the CBC article in Ammo's post gives much better context to the average reader regarding the incident with the mentioning of number of convictions and common consequences. IMO, some articles try to sensationalize the incident disproportionately by only mentioning that the General would...
