My question is, how long will it take the recuriting centres to process all these applicants...we already know that the recruiting system is abysmally slow...now with all these new spots opening up...god help us!
For sure, all I'm saying is that all things coinsidered...the CF is worth taking a look at because with the BA you could be waiting a long time and in the end you might not even get in...especially for Officer apps right...and then you'd say to yourself "crap, I've wasted x number of years...
That's pretty much it isn't it...so in the end is it worth it? Only if you're really keen on the British Army I guess...and what if you don't get in...to me it seems like a big gamble...
They got some more money after 9-11...but that was a while ago...the funding was meant for a 5 year time frame I think...in any case, there have been government studies done on the costs of establishing a foreign intelligence gathering capacity...and its surprisingly not that much...so there's...
I wrote my Master's thesis on Canadian Intelligence...
CSIS is a securtiy intelligence agency...it is taksed with collecting information on anything that is deemed to be a threat to Canada. So in other words, there has to exist an identifiable threat to Canada or Canadian interests before CSIS...
Thanks for the input,
I was just curious because when you look at the British Comissioning course (44 weeks) and then the Canadian BOTP (14 Weeks I think?) then you kinda think "wow that's a big difference!"
But I realize that after St Jean you are not finished by any means...I guess at...
If you're interested in intelligence studies check out the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. You may have never heard of it, but they have one of the top Departments for International Studies in the UK (Top 3 according to university rankings) and they have a specific degree program for...
Okay, thought I'd post the letter I got from MOD on January 18 2005 to help clarify this residency deal...interpret it anyway you like...

I refer to your recent enquiry about a commission in the British Army. The requirement for...
I agree.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade...or discourage you...I think they will probably take NCM's more readily...I'm just warning you...don't be surprised if they tell you that yoiu have to live there for 2 years...it sucks, but things have changed since 9-11 I think...they are more...
Jascar:
"From what I've heard from other Canadians who've joined the British army, the application process takes about a year to a year and a half between sending in the application and starting training. That's quicker than here in Canada."
That may be so...but I'm assuming they joined when...
Same thing happened to me...My waistline increased when I started working out...if you're building muscle, especially abs then you're going to gain inches unless you try and shed some of the fat that surrounnds your abs...what I did is I started to do alot of cardio to lost weight as well...and...
I though I'd post this great book review on Andrew Robert's book "Waterloo: Napoleon's Last Gamble."
It was in the Economist, and anyone who knows the Economist knows that their writers have a rather unique sens of humour...this review is great for a good laugh...enjoy!

Can anyone shed some light on the comparison between Canada's Officer training and the UK's Officer Basic Training programs...from what I've read, the British Commissioning course seems pretty detailed, much longer (44 weeks) and involves alot more as far as variety goes...
Does the CF compare...
I'm no expert on the Brit Arny, but I did live in the UK for 2 years when I did my Master's and as the others on this board have said, its a huge adjustment...the England that we are often shown on TV and what not forms a very small part of the real UK...there is alot they don't show us...its...
Does anyone know if the CF has a Rugby Team? Or if specific units or bases have teams? Just interested because I play ruggers and I would love to continue playing if I join up...
For anyone who's interested...and I know there are some of us out there who applied or are considering applying to the Brits as an officer...

RyanNS, Check out this thread...it was started by Pieman and it tells of his experience in applying for the Brits. It might be of some help...I'm in the app process with them right now as well...still waiting to hear back from them...

Cheers.
Thanks for the update Meridian.
From what I understand the Brits are going through the process of re-thinking their recruitment policy regarding Commonwealth citizens.
I have been in the application process for a while now, and when I first sent in my application (October) I was still...
Can anyone clarify the 2 years residence in the UK requirement...I've lived in the UK before...for 1 year in 97-98 and for another year in 2002-2003...so thats 2 years...I'm just wondering if you have to live 2 years immediately before joining or if you just have to have lived in the UK for more...
Blackberry,
I'm a little confused about your note regarding Math 12 and Physics or Chem 12. If you need those courses to qualify for a Commission then that's news to me. The recruiting centre in Vancouver never told me that when I applied. I think it all depends on what career path you are...
