Combat Service Support to undergo major transformation

Another option for CSS Transformation is going the USMC way.  They have very large service companies in their combat battalions that provide Role 1 (Intergal Support) and Role 2 (Close Support).  A USMC Armoured Recon Battalion with LAVs (Bison generation) has a headquarters & services company...

Combat Service Support to undergo major transformation

Here's another option for a new CSS organization.  The US Army Stryker Brigade Combat Teams have with drawn all the CSS platoons from their infantry battalions.  The Brigade Support Battalion does not have Forward Support Companies like the Legacy Brigade's do.  The Stryker BCT's BSB is...

    New Guns for 1 RCHA...

Good discussion but nobody answered my original question.  How is the new 4-gun battery organized?

Combat Service Support to undergo major transformation

Can anyone go into some detail as to how the Forward Support Groups will be organized?  I watched a segment on Army News on the topic and all that was said was it was an consolidation of the infantry battalion's admin company and service battalion elements.  But I'm curious what the organization...

    New Guns for 1 RCHA...

How are the new 4-gun batteries being organized?  One troop of 4 guns or two troops of 2 guns?

You're getting it......for whatever purpose (RG-31 with RWS)

Would variants of the RG-31 or the more modern RG-32M be suitable replacements for some Grizzly, Bison or LAV-III support variants?  The US Army Stryker brigades use soft-skinned HMMWVs for command posts at the battalion headquarters and mortar platoon headquarters in their infantry battalions. ...

You're getting it......for whatever purpose (RG-31 with RWS)

I'm not sure.  I can't seem to find that.  All the manufacturers website said is the next generation RWS will be stabilized and the US Stryker Brigades will be updating to this variant.  It didn't say which variant we were getting.

You're getting it......for whatever purpose (RG-31 with RWS)

Thanks for the reply.  However, I thought the PWS was shorter than the RWS but I could be wrong.  And the RWS can be stabilized.  But the variant currently in use on the US Stryker is not.  The newest version, or rather the next version, will be stabilized.  According to the manufaturer's...

LAV III Mobile Gun System (MGS)

Yes, I know that.  The point is that the 90mm gun is still capable of penetrating all armoured vehicles up to a T-72 tank.  And can even penetrate this at 2000m range.  Why upgrade to a 105mm gun that is heavier and has larger ammunition, which means less ammunition carried, when the 90mm gun...

LAV III Mobile Gun System (MGS)

Here is another option.  The Light Compact Turret System 90 by CMI.  It can match the performance of a 105mm gun with its low-recoil 90mm gun.  The 90mm gun is lighter and its ammunition is obviously lighter and smaller meaning more ammunition can be carried.  The 90mm Cockerill gun can defeat...

    Our 'maybe' new recce vehicle

Looks great.  I've wondered for a while when this vehicle was going to be looked at.  But why is the Army procuring the RG-31 and looking at the Duro APV?  Aren't these two vehicles relatively similar, although the Duro looks live a a 4-crew vehicle and the RG-31 carries 6-10 depending on variant.

Sounds like another great purchase by the CDS, good for him.  He's finally getting the equipment the CF needs and seems to be getting it fast. I'm just curious why the RWS and not the Protected Weapons Station (PWS) already in use by the CF?

Paul Jackson- The A 400 is a better plane

The A400 is a C130 replacement for many Air Forces, but it is also a strategic airlifter.  Basically a dual tactical-strategic aircraft.  It probably would be a better option for the Canadian Forces but I don't think they can wait that long.  The first A400 hasn't even been built yet.

EFSS - The Artillery of Tommorow?

This is what I was getting at with my thread "Whither the Artillery".  The 120mm mortar gives the best "bang for your buck" so to speak.  The majority of Canadian operations are light to medium intensity operations (Bosnia-UN, Somalia, Bosnia-IFOR/SFOR, Kosovo, Afghanistan warfighting & peace...

    Infantry of Tomorrow

I just read in Jane's Defence that the Australian infantry has opted to reorganize into the fire team organization from the traditional section.  I believe this is the US Army squad-type fire teams they are switching to.  Correct me if I'm wrong. Section Leader and two Fire Teams of four...

US Defense Department approve full production of V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft

If it didn't cost $100 million I would think it would be a good SAR aircraft for Canada.  It could replace both the Hercules and the new Cormorant.

    US Army NLOS-C Battery

That article was about the reorganization to Unit of Action BCTs not the Future Combat System UA BCTs.  But I had a personal message from someone working on the project who said that what I had previously read was pretty close to what the TO&E will likely look like.

    US Army NLOS-C Battery

Does anyone know how the US Army plans to organize their artillery batteries once they are equipped with the NLOS-C variant of the Future Combat System?  The only thing I could find was that a battery was to have two platoons of 3 x NLOS-Cs each.  There will be no FO/FIST teams since with all...

    MLVW Replacment?

"We should be jumping onto the next generation not the last generation, MTVR not the FMTV" This is exactly why the MAN series would be more appropriate.  The British Army will be taking delivery of the MAN 6, 12 & 18 tonne trucks in the next few years and will be using them for the next 20+...

    Reassigning Combat Arms trades

I 100% agree.  Train as you deploy.  But the trick is to do it without destroying the regimental system.  I suggested in another post that brigades should be permently organized in combined arms battle groups/task forces.
