Old wounds slow to heal on Plains of Abraham - CBC News

The last problem of the quebec education system is the books. They should start by tearing it down, stop putting all the exams into "check the box for the right answer" format, put in a little bit more supervision and stop letting people get in highly specialized programs at age 17. With this...

Old wounds slow to heal on Plains of Abraham - CBC News

Yup, I go to a private school that uses the french system and that is frequented by French expatriates. I witness daily the kind of scorn they have for Quebecers. The leading stereotype is of Quebecers as being like Peasants due to their accent being just like 17th century "Bas-Français". In a...

For Equal Rights, Muslim Women’s Meeting Turns to Islam (Malaysia) -NY Times

Even seeing these subdivisons as unified is wrong since they don't have a leader or an administration structure like with the pope and catholics.

I concur, being of both cultures, the things they have in common apart from the language are few and far between. Go ask the average Quebecer about what he knows of french culture and see if he doesn't use cheap sterotypes like the Monalisa or the Eiffel tower. Go ask a frenchman what he knows...

More than 134 rescued on Lake Erie ice field, 1 dead

Journeyman, In my reference to stoicism, I was talking about the tenet of the philosophy that promotes the purgation of emotions from everyday judgement. I did take things to the first degree here, sorry for that. Just making a clarification. Cheers!

More than 134 rescued on Lake Erie ice field, 1 dead

I'm not sure I agree. Sometimes, we screw up and have to learn things the hard way. I don't think the people on th ice slab were that stoïc and neither should they be.

Montreal PD asks City to prohibit insults

Well it came from my own propensity to feel very uncomfortable with disrespect towards policemen (or anyone in uniform for that matter) On going back, I realize that it is a bit extreme. But hey, I heard that one can go to jail for up to 4 years for spitting on a cop in the US.

Montreal PD asks City to prohibit insults

Why not? It is verbal assaultwe are talking about. I think a fine would be the proverbial soap on some people's tongues.

I beg to differ, the revolution happened in 1789, you're off the mark by thirty years. France was still in tatters though but that was because of the 7 years' war, not the revolution.

Are the Olympics a waste of time and money?

I do care about the standings of our Athletes. Not simply because of national pride but because there is a point to the Olympics in terms ou our international rep.                Do you think that the government pours money into training just so athletes can realize their dreams? It's because...

Are the Olympics a waste of time and money?

How do you mean? regardless of whether the olympics are a good thing, athletes like Michael Phelps or Hussein Bolt are anything but mediocre. Furthermore, the performances on most sports have always been getting better for the entire century, I don't see how they could be seen as mediocre.

    Rudolf Hess

Oh man.... Rudolf Hess was certainly not a love child. Whatever that documentary was, either it was misleading or you didn't interpret things right. Hess was Hitler's deputy, on of his lieutenants, therefore a close adherent to Nazi ideology. That should already make some alarm bells sound off...

Capt. Robert Semrau Charged With Murder in Afghanistan

By god the lack of info is frustrating! CBC has failed to even provide us with any details of how or what happened except for the fact that an insurgent was killed in the "wrong" manner. How is that even possible?
