Exploiting reservists' love of their regiments

Here's a CO with his head on right.  Too bad there isn't more like him.  Well done Calgary Highlanders! Exploiting reservists' love of their regiments   Bob Bergen Special to The Windsor Star Wednesday, June 13, 2007 It seems like such a simple concept, but capitalizing on Canadian...

    Decision time

Is there any news with regard to the Territorial Defence Battalions?  It seems to be time for a decision as far as my future in the military and I’d like to make an informed one.  Feel free to PM if you think there is something that shouldn’t be on the public forum. Thanks, ARG

    WW1 CFA

A friend of mine is trying to research his great uncle's service in World War 1.  The fellow served in the CFA.  He joined in Toronto, Ontario on October 1st, 1917.  My friend would like to know where to look for information relating to his great uncle's service, the battery he'd have been in...

Reserves and their role in the big picture

Some reserve elements have a good "fit" when it comes to augmentation of the regular force, sigs or infantry for example.  Unfortunately, others don't, the Armour reserve for example.  We don't have common equipment (Coyotes or Leopards) so it makes augmenting very difficult.  Most of the...

Canada eyeing reservists to bolster force in Afghanistan

Consider that the RG31 is not on anybody's scale of issue, everyone who drives them needs to be trained, reg or reserve.  It's feasible to have the reserve black hatters use these on operations along with the Bison (some of us can still drive them).  Have the infantry guys in the bisons to close...

Divining the right role, capabilities, structure, and Regimental System for Canada's Army Reserves

The Director of Armour spoke at our mess dinner in December.  He mentioned the TDBG and said something to the effect that existing reserve units would supply the bulk of the troops when the emergency happens.  It would be a metter of Canada Command taking over and tasking the troops.  Of course...

    Medal for Domestic Operation?

Instead of a new medal, why not a "Domestic Operations" bar to the SSM?

    Reservists Job Protection Superthread

I'm not talking about time off for a weekend FTX. I'm talking about protected time off for tours.

    Reservists Job Protection Superthread

I still say that if they can get new parents a year off for every new baby, they can protect a reservist's job for a year while he or she serves our country.  We can and have fought and some have died but we can't protect our jobs?  BS I say.

New Task for the Armoured Reserve?

For what it's worth, we had the Director of Armour at our mess dinner on the 2nd of December.  He told us that the plan is to have the reserve RECCE units conduct the convoy escorts in Afghanistan.  The troop would be composite and do work up training and deploy together.

Army to rely more on civilians to train recruits

I think that there may be a point being missed here.  If you want a reservist to go overseas, train people full time or do anything full time, you need to protect their jobs.

Canada's options: fight in Afghanistan or secure 2010 Olympics ?

Maybe there is another plan here.  Could it be that the military and government are talking like things are very bad, manning wise, because they are looking at doing something outside the box and need the population to believe the move is necessary?  There is 15,000 reservists that no one seems...

Senate Committee Report Excerpt: "Creating Real Reserves"

skydiver: Since this thread is about the reserves, that's where my points are aimed.  A tour in the regular force is almost a given these days.  There are so many jobs that need to be done "over there" that even non-combat arms people should be able to go.  Currently we have 5 over there right...

Senate Committee Report Excerpt: "Creating Real Reserves"

Further to my last. As far as job protection goes, why can't the government use a system that is already in place.  They ensure  job protection for new parents.  Why not do the same for a reservist?  When all is said and done, the reservist needs about a year for work up training, the tour and...

Senate Committee Report Excerpt: "Creating Real Reserves"

We will be kicking this kind of thing around for ever and not everyone will agree, ever. How about this, we train the reserves on all the basic soldiering skills to give a solid foundation.  Then, when needs are identified, they fill a spot and get the mission specific training during the work...

    Reservists Job Protection Superthread

I've always said that if they can give new parents time off, they can do the same thing for reservists.
