I believe infantry is one of the real time trades that are selected everyday. So the day after your file is merit listed you should be selected. Or at least that is what I'm lead to believe. But I was also merit listed for Sig Op (another real time trade) for over a month and was never selected...

Firstly the official mandate of the Canadian Forces is not peacekeeping, it is the defense of Canada and North America. And secondly urban combat and peacekeeping are two different things completely. Urban combat is warfighting, peacekeeping is something totally on its own.

How are Iraq and Afghanistan different? Seems to me that everything happening in Iraq is also happening in Afghanistan (suicide bombings, IEDs, etc.). And it is only a small minority carrying out the attacks, like in Iraq.

Yup, got the memo. Ok, after thinking about it for a few days am going to keep with my first (well..second..) choice, Combat Engineer. Just hoping to be selected on the 5th of September.

If the choice is between eating IMPs or sending civilian cooks to the warzone, I think I'll support sending the cooks over.  ;D Also, there is no safe place in Afghanistan, the base is probably an easier target than a patrol through the city.

No, there was more to it than that. First I'd have to get my G2, which I can get anytime and then I'd have to wait something like 8 months or a year before I can take the test for the full G license which is the one I needed.

Well I can honestly say that I am joining to serve, not to be a part of any one MOC. I'd be happy doing whatever and have no expectations.
