Depends on the unit, and unit shift schedules are always subject to change. 100-some days at CFSACO, one of the finest training institutions in the CF. Hotel-style accomodation, decent food, and a sweet gym - all in the same building. Its to compensate for the courses being very challenging -...

    World's costliest crash in Japan

Sounds like something out of a movie... Detective Hagan: You wanna explain why you were speeding? Nick Hendricks: I was drag racing. Detective Hagan: In a Prius? Nick Hendricks: I don't win a lot.

    CFR to AEC

In response to Question 1, it is possible. You can do the DL anywhere. While they prefer having people at operational airbases, pre-course OJE is not mandatory, and people have been kept "close to home" before. Heck, they post OJE's to Winnipeg, which is an operational airbase with no military...

    Fallen Comrades (serving Canadian military)

With much sadness I pass along that Maj Sharon Broadbent died today, losing her battle with cancer. She was the A3 Aerospace Coordinator at 1 Cdn Air Div in Winnipeg. Obit and funeral details as they become available. RIP Ma'am. You will be missed.

    Aerospace Control Officers-AEC [merged]

Funny enough, I know a SAR Tech Sgt who was an AEC Capt. I asked him why he would give up his commission to do that, and he said he'd rather be jumping out of planes than be stuck in an IFRCC. I guess being able to do this job does not exactly equate liking it. Transfers to NCM trades from...

    Aerospace Control Officers-AEC [merged]

Possibly. It could be the case that those slots have been filled but the document has not been updated to reflect that (the information I posted was from an excel spreadsheet on the DWAN). If in doubt, ask your CFRC if there are any DEO AEC positions open. I wish I could give a definite answer...

    Aerospace Control Officers-AEC [merged]

generalmeng: Apologies for the delay. AEC and AC Op Intake is as follows: As you can see, AEC recruitment is starting to close off as we reach our PML. AEC is forecast to be green at the end of the FY, at 98.1% of our PML, so recruiting figures will adjust accordingly. DEO has only a handful...

    Aerospace Control Officers-AEC [merged]

Simple, the trade is starting to meet its preferred manning levels. For the first time in a long time, AEC is no longer a red trade, in fact we're now at >90% TES making us a yellow trade. Furthermore, we've got enough of a training backlog to last us through to the end of 2012, so bringing in...

    Next AC Op QL3?

As promised: Next QL3 course at CFSACO is 6 Sep - 8 Dec 2011. There is also a BAEQ course running at CFSACO prior to the QL3 from 30 Aug - 2 Sep that you may (probably will) be required to attend. No word on affirmative dates for 2012 courses, but generally there are 3 QL3 courses run per year.

    2012 Phenomenon

2012? Pfft. I don't know how many prophets have said when the world will end based off some little kernel of evidence, but none of them have been right. Let's just say I'm betting with the odds on this one. I'd be more worried about the Year 2038 Problem. Nothing like reliving the magical days...

Any ROTP types at York University?

There were students at York at the time of the strike. IIRC, York ROTP students were employed at local units while the strike was ongoing. Their military training was affected by the semester ending much later, but the military accommodated for it. If a strike at your university that will...

Incorrect. The PAY system may consider you not at work, but the legal system says otherwise. IAW QR&O Vol I Ch 9.06 Further, IAW NDA Section 60 Nowhere is it mentioned that one must sign in to be considered on duty, just that you must be there. In the case of the young soldier who was hit...

Salute with arms vs. Present Arms

Your assumption is correct, salute with arms is a standard salute where you happen to be carrying a rifle. For both your examples, a standard salute with arms is appropriate. Present Arms is generally done with formed groups on parade, where there is a dignitary or inspecting officer. Rarely...

"If you're not signed in, you're not covered" - Class A injury compensation

Signing the pay sheet is not the only way to verify your presence: If you're injured in the course of duty, you should fill out a CF-98. If you fill out a CF-98, you're covered. VAC will use CF-98's, not paysheets, in determining if you can draw benefits or compensation as a result of...
