I just got my copy of the book yesterday and it is absolutely brilliant. I've only glanced through it as yet, but the photographs are nothing short of amazing. This is a high-quality book too. I'm very happy that I bought a copy.
There's another element in this issue which hasn't been touched upon yet. In the modern era, we're accustomed to hyper-violence in movies. Also, audiences expect to see plenty of blood. SPR has been mentioned several times as a touchstone, but I got up and left after the German flak gun...
There was a thread on Army.ca about ten years ago called '"Trading Saber for Stealth" or "Are We a One Trick Pony?"' It covers quite a bit of ground related to this subject.

This is a thought-provoking article. Sometimes I can't help but think we're a bunch of army mice stuck in a maze looking for last year's cheese. The most sobering part of the article is that we only have nine heavy brigades in the active force for the entire world. The author is on target with...
Old Sweat, The book arrived with yesterday's post. It's brilliant and although I've only had the chance to flip through the pages, it's exactly what I was looking for.
Also, linked on the Wikipedia page about the CCB is the PDF of The Canadian Army Journal, Winter 2005 edition. There is an...
I came across this sobering and informative article on Active History several days ago while doing some research. Although it is from 2014, the topic is relevant to the history of the Great War. I have copied a portion of the article, which is fairly long, and includes graphs. The direct link is...
Improved conventional munitions are still in the US inventory and they are and will remain an effective tool in combat. DoD is working on modernized sub-munitions that have a minus 1 percent malfunction rate. White phosphorous is a totally different munition type and it also remains in the...
Hopefully, this reply is helpful in providing context reference The Royal Canadian Legion and similar veterans organizations. Unlike The RCL, most US veterans associations/leagues are closed membership organizations that only allow full membership to those who served in specific areas...

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) has beef with the idea of military personnel participating in “meatless Mondays,” and last...
The feature-length documentary Newfoundland at Armageddon is being broadcast by CBC on 30 June 2016. They found descendants of soldiers in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment to recreate their ancestors' actions at Beaumont Hamel on 1 July 1916. The previews look good, and I'm looking forward to...
I think it's the ninth picture from the top - the one captioned "Urgency is etched on the faces of men running through a trench at Beaumont Hamel." I'll bet the soldier closest to the camera was getting ready to yell at the photographer, "Get the hell outta my way!"
