Harper Outlines Canada's First Defence Strategy

My take, Remove the "civvie" defense minister and allot the post to the highest ranking member of the CF.  Who else can lobby with conviction other than someone who has spent their lives defending our nation?  Of course, if I were the highest ranking member in the CF I wouldn't want to deal...

    Canadian Manpower Centres as CFRCs

I'd normally agree except for the fact that pretty much all recruiters work on a combo of base salary + commissions.  A truly exceptional civvie recruiter would not want to be the front-gate to a bunch of folks off the street who walk in looking for a 'job' in the CF.  I'd suspect that at ground...

    Canadian Manpower Centres as CFRCs

Yikes, Manpower as a CFRC?  I know the national director of Manpower Canada and frankly speaking, their staff are not well trained enough to handle the rigours of the CFRC (even administratively).  No private companies should ever be involved with handling recruitment for the Armed Forces.  The...

Harper Outlines Canada's First Defence Strategy

65 new fighters?!  Damnit - chances of becoming a CF fighter pilot are dwindling by the day, it seems.  How can 65 aircraft (assuming 75% are fully operational at one time) defend the national interests of Canada?  Even with greater capacity it spreads thin the amount we can achieve - I mean...

CEOTP (Continuing Ed Officer Trg Plan) 2003-2018 [Merged]

CEOTP length? As far as I know CEOTP is no different than going DEO with the exception that you are in the middle of a degree and have to complete it during your time in the CF as an officer. I'm no expert on the subject but I think I have a pretty good grasp of it.  If you are NCM -> officer...

Project Noctua & the Heron UAV - Interim capability to support Afghanistan Ops

Damnit, No surprising though.  The rare moment when Canada is actually willing to pull the trigger relatively quickly on a purchase, we are slapped in the face with something like this.  Damned if you do and Damned if you don't. J

    how far?

Hey Siege, I remember starting week one at 3k-5k and topping out around 7-8k.  15k would take too long and wear out too many recruits before the classes started.  I'd place more emphasis on the physical testing such as the fireman carry, chin ups, push ups, shuttle run and forced march (in full...

Just got back from CFRC - need some advice

Sorry CDNAviator, It wasn't my intention to insult anyone in anyway (please see my post above correcting myself on Buffalo vs Aurora).  My thoughts were to get into to "fighter jet" combat scenarios as opposed to "other" combat scenarios although I am well aware that all aircraft play a role in...

Just got back from CFRC - need some advice

I stand corrected.  Somewhere in my mixed-up brain I did indeed get the Aurora mixed up with the Buffalo - I know, I know...my bad.  Aurora's are indeed faster that the other props we have in the CF inventory.  Although ocean-side postings are great (born in Halifax, raised in NB) I'd like to be...

Just got back from CFRC - need some advice

Hi All, To answer the last couple of posts.  Seems like even if I were able to get in as a Pilot that CF-18 would be out of reach for me due to my age.  I've come to the realization that my dream of being a fighter pilot is a narrowing road.  Having said that I am more than open to tactical...

    CH-148 Cyclone Progress

LOL - I think I found our Cyclone replacement...too bad something like won't be coming out anytime soon for the private pilot. Link: http://gizmodo.com/385236/falx-promises-private-tilt+rotor-aircraft-verdict-improbable J

Previous drug use question 2002 - 2018 [Merged]

Bud, If you feel ok then write the CFAT.  If you are doing a medical along with it then re-schedule the whole thing for another day.  It takes a while for pot to purge from your body.  You shouldn't be doing drugs anyway but you've heard that line a million times. J

Partnership with TestReadyPro (CFAT Prep Training)

Yeah I come from the old school as well.  I honestly think people are genuinely concerned, not about CFAT, but what the scores mean to their career choices.  Heck, when I joined I got what I wanted (at the time) but I know folks here (and especially Gen Ys) are looking for a career that will...

Just got back from CFRC - need some advice

Thanks folks, It's been a mental rollercoaster these past few days.  One small part of me says stick with what I am doing in the Civvie world but a much larger chunck is screaming Pilot in the CF.  It's been that way for a very long time. I'm attempting to make contact with someone at RMC for...

    update...everything completed

Congrats VM, Your living the dream :)  During Milcon(aka Arcon) exercise at CFB Gagetown I was posted to the Armoured division for the summer and those guys were a hoot!  The armoured officers were simply 'amazing' - they juggled so much data at one time, it was like Cirque Army style. You are...

Just got back from CFRC - need some advice

Hey guys, Just heard from the re-enrollment officer in Ottawa.  He tells me that there were 5 CEOTP slots for Pilot this year and to his knowledge have already been filled.  He suspects the next few years to be very lean when it comes to open Pilot slots.  That sort of makes sense, when the...

Wow, I must be out to lunch.  I thought the CH-149 Cormorant was supposed to replace the Sea King.  Can they not land on ships? J

The truth comes out - advice?

Bograt - Just PM'd you Thanks for the advice everyone.  It's not an easy decision and I will give my wife time to adjust and speak with her about the merits of serving one's country. Thanks, J

    Running

Hi, When I was in the reserves, the summer PT during training mainly consisted of running (and 100s of pushups through out the day).  I ran "ok" but really had problems when I was running in formation behind several people, and that is what tired me out quickly more than anything else. I...
