Well, I think the decision to make combats a walking out dress was before the new CADPAT was adopted and it was really an Army oriented decision. The Navy chose to allow NCD's as a walking out dress to allow the sailors to have a similar work wear that they could wear in public. In reality, I...
So what does it matter what colour the uniform is then? We want a uniform in Camo so that it will hide grease and paint stains better? Lets just buy into the Army/Air Force pattern and save a lot of time and energy coming up with a new pattern. Or is this more about our sailors looking like the...
I agree. Who came up with that idea and to what end? Is the answer to developing a better naval identity in this country to put our organization's name on our jackets? Should we also do that on our DEU as I have had numerous questions about what organization I belong to while wearing that kit...
I agree. no value at all in having another set of uniform with a pointless camoflague pattern just to avoid having to wear NCD's in non-sea going roles. I thought the point was to minimize the number of orders of dress that need to be maintained.
That is kind of interesting. They placed CHICOUTIMI on the jetty instead of into the drydock. Will they need to bring back the Hern, once the refit/repairs are complete in order to get the boat into the water? I suppose VICTORIA is still in the Esquimalt drydock and Vic Ships was not prepared to...
There really isn't anything wrong with it so long as it doesn't affect work performance. The reality is that familiarity breeds contempt and socializing between ranks raises the possibility of that happening.
You are maybe overlooking the presence of NRD's throughout the major inland cities. None of the sailors at those units should be wearing CADPAT and are supposed to be the Naval presence in the inland cities. Granted, they are typically only working one or two evenings a week but that image...
Personally, I've never quite figured out why the Army and now the Air Force type seem fixated on wearing the most expensive clothing issued by the CF to wear around an office and push paper around. You spend $$$$ on coming up with a sophisticated camoflauge pattern and special cloth and then...
I guess that I have never quite understood why so many folks are reluctant to attend such dinners. It's a fabulous way of learning more about your messmates and for some great camaraderie. I got to agree with the "I've never not had fun at a mess dinner" sentiment. The Mess, in whatever element...
I am sort of pointing back to the OP comments and the link where COMFLTLANT seemed to indicate the destroyers would be replaced with the new SSC. I don't know if he was just blowing smoke but...
I can't say that I have been following the destroyer replacement ideas much.
I don't think anyone was expecting northern port visits to be adding much to the patrol. My comments above were more geared on the general manning issue the Navy has now. I agree that the upgrades and replacements for the DDG/DDH and FFH would be the priority as would the AOR/JSS concept...
Of course the issue is now one of manning for this fleet of the future. I do not believe that the recruiting system will be able to keep up with demand for people to crew all of these ships. Right now, the KIN class crews have been decimated with CT to the REG force and there is almost nobody...
Now the actual title of the story is "First female takes control of major warship" so I guess it is correctted. It
does now refer to Marta Mulkins and I note the byline under the title. Me thinks, they updated their story after you posted this.
""Updated Tue. Apr. 7 2009 3:30 PM ET""
I suppose it is a matter of interpretation but one of the KIN Class was captained by a female reservist 6 years ago or so. Perhaps it should say 'Major' warship.

The conversation has certainly morphed a fair bit from where it started. I wasn't really planning on arguing whether NAVRES pers could be employed out of the Naval element because it certainly does happen. My point was more in line with the standard (normal, usual, apply your own adjective here)...
Although I get what you say about being stuck in environmental stovepipes, I am not entirely sure of the application here. Yes, the Naval Reserve has INT O's but is still trying to find meaningful roles for them outside of NCAGS, a function has existed since WWII. If there is no valid...
