"O'Connor has $8B military 'wish list"

Oh come on Kirkhill, "Lenny from Bangkok" is on a roll..... 8)

"O'Connor has $8B military 'wish list"

I wouldn't put too much stock in what some chump from Vancouver has to say on the Globe and Mail website. It's probably part of an orchestrated peacenik campaign anyway. Not that I'm not totally riveted by what "Lenny from Bangkok" has to say about Canadian military affairs and the world...

    Combat Arms Officer failure rate

LU There was a thread on this very topic about a year and half ago offered up by a serving armour officer IIRC; try searching under armour and failure rates; it was a pretty good discussion IIRC. mdh

    Ipods

I'll second what the other guys have posted with regard to Kazaa; with Kazaa you will get the delectable pleasure of dowloading (unbeknownst to you) "best deals" or whatever they call it, a brilliantly annoying adware that can't be erased from your system without a first rate anti-spyware...

    Forces struggling to recruit...

Exactly, It's the technical and skilled trades that are in short supply; somehow we need to make a convincing pitch to young graduates in these areas that the CF offers an exciting career alternative.  There is no question that the Forces will face a war for talent as the demographic decline...

    Future of CAP

Plattypus Thanks for the clarification, it's good news, and if you do any links you can share with us in the future I'd be most appreciative.  :salute: cheers, mdh

I dunno, I found it kind of inspiring.... ;) cheers, mdh

    Future of CAP

I haven't heard that there was any decentralized alternative either (at least not in 39 Brigade) but if there is an alternative I would like to know as well since we're facing similar issues in our unit. cheers, mdh

    Future of CAP

Which also leaves the unit with a high turnover rate when those officers graduate and pursue other careers. One of the advantages of the old MITCP was that it provided perpetual "garrison" officers who did a lot of the boring adminstrative stuff and kept the unit running over the years. However...

Time to Send CF Fast Air to AFG?

Gramps, I think he means Commercial Pilot License (CPL) not Corporal as a rank; unless you're a part-time bush pilot or instructor....

    older applicant

I had a close friend who joined up at the age of 36 and it hasn't been easy.  Not only did it have a major (if predictable) impact on his family life, there are a lot of potential frustrations; one of the biggest has been the training backlog (none of this includes the recruiting time to get in...

Time to Send CF Fast Air to AFG?

Exactly the point I was going to make; there seems to be an assumption in the original thread that US combat pilots are wildly bombing anything that moves (perhaps an understandable prejudice given our recent history with the USAF in Afghanistan.)  I guess the idea is that the CAF would do...

    Reservists Job Protection Superthread

Did anyone else see the MND suggest he was going to take a closer look at job protection legislation for reservists? I believe it was on CTV News last night.  It seemed to be a passing reference more than a policy pronouncement but it might be a significant development. cheers, mdh

    Reporters walk out on PM

a-majoor: agree with you 100 per cent (ps good article in the back issue of Army Journal) Kirkhill I think political memories are short and "media memories" (if I can call it that) are even shorter. The vast majority of audiences pay scant attention to political news.  Moreover, I don't...

    Reporters walk out on PM

I think it's easy to overstate the press gallery's "agenda"; most reporters are far too cynical, jaded, and terrified of losing his or her jobs in some ruthless management purge in the newsroom to actively pursue a coherent political agenda.  While I think it's a truism that most reporters are...

Weekend IAP/BOTP for ResF starting in Sept?

That's my evil plan...  ;)... thanks for the information and good luck on getting Phase 4; I know that reserve platoon commanders who want to serve as field platoon commanders overseas need Phase 4 but they rarely get it; this is certainly been a long-standing gripe on our unit, and a classic...

    Age Limits - Reserves

mileender Can you be more specific? What's the unit doing to give you that impression? if it's slowness to respond to your application that might be just a routine case of sclerotic administration. If they're avoiding an officer boarding that might be something altogether different.... mdh
