Ask for a posting with any of the Combat arms trades and you're chances are pretty good I would think. The Hussars took me with them to Germany in 1987 and I had an experience of a lifetime. That is gone now, but there's plenty of "travel" to be had. The Coyote Gunnery course is cool. I did the...
Cannonfodder,
I was reading a post of yours in the Medak pocket thread and I was wondering whether you had an experience there that made you bitter, and made you hold animosity towards parts of the military. I am curious about the emotional state of the folks that were there, and whether or not...
I finished reading this book and to be honest, I had no idea that was happening in the Balkans. I left Germany in 1991, and I must have missed the news about it, but then the book did state that The government wanted to keep things quiet because of the Somali situation. I wonder about all the...
I took a look at that Norwegian link...nice looking ship. Would that be the type we would employ. I tried to figure out how much 574 or so million krone is. What is that in Cdn Dollars. Sounds like a lot, which probably means we won't see them. We will probably get the old...
I think fully equipped Icebreakers are an excellent asset for our Country. Combined with our subs (when they are all operational) it should be an adequate presence for our Northern area. Initially I did not key in on that part of the Defence platforms but it did become one of the reasons why I...
Well it's crunch time as we speak, the politicians are hovered around their supporters waiting for the tally. I tried to weed out the biggest liars out of the buch, but I did vote Conservatives today. They seem to be supporting military spending the most, but we all know promises don't mean s**t...
You are right;
I've done a little research, and as of 13 Jan 2006, the Dutch government has decided to make A-stan a go. There is the problem of the Junior political party in their government threatening to veto the application submitted by the leading Democtratic Christian Party to supply an...
Like at least one other member in here, I was in Lahr and went to the Gutenburg school at 4 am for about three weeks with a couple of other guys and checked out the outside of the school, checked out cars parked in front, sent two guys into the school to look for anything suspicous and then...
I would think that they probably noticed the guy was mature for his age, displayed leadership qualities and was rewarded accordingly. Any soldier who puts the welfare of the people he leads first, IMHO, is worth following. We as Canadians (apart from the Balkans) are just now feeling the effects...
Greetings;
I am a Canadian who was born in the Netherlands. When I was in Germany, I was the Gunplummer with the 8th Hussars for all of the Guncamps leading up to and including CAT 89 and 91 (Canadian Army Trophy) Although the Dutch Tank crews I met were Conscripts, had long hair and looked a...
On the topic of Africa;
I remember a Recce Sqn guy buddy (Hussars/Dragoons) of mine who was in Somalia, and if I.C. is any thing like that, we would definitely not want to go. He spoke to me of an incident where our guys wanted to search the back of a truck. They instructed the Somali man to...
I would think you have a pretty good chance to get the call soon, i believe the extra combat arms people that the government has promised should start training soon...get ready.. :soldier:
Greetings,
I just finished reading "The ghosts of medak pocket". I know very little about this part of the Balkan conflict. Are there any members out there who can share some experiences from that mission?
Bob
Hi there,
I would like to know if there are Wpns techs who have served in A-stan, and how involved you were with not only the equipment, but also the soldering aspect of the mission.
Thanks,
Bob :cdn:
I believe the only place to get exotic arms courses is if you get posted to JTF2, or perhaps on a project in NDHQ. I've been away from the military for awhile, so there may be more than that.
Why from the one beside Uranus called Myanus, but I think my molecules got scrambled when I materialized here on Earth, which hopefully explains my ramblings.. ;D

I don't want to offend or anything, but I'm under the understanding that our JTF2 operators and CSIS field officers are gathering quite a bit of intelligence over in A-stan. In addition, our surveillance equipment is state of the art, and I don't believe we rely on the yanks as much as you...
My 2 cents,
I'm sure that the soldiers of today realize the risks that they are asked to take. They probably don't care about the politics of things, only that they look out for each other as they take on missions, and do the best they can do with what they are given. There were quite a few...
I didn't check all the replies, but I saw a movie called "The odd angry shot" about Australian SAS in Vietnam. I enjoyed it because some of the troops were using FN's and the firefight scenes were pretty realistic. Can't find it anywhere now...
