They don't. They are Naval combat troops in just about every country I can think of that have them. In the US they fall under the Department of the Navy.

When I was first in Esquimalt (77-81) the pizza guys used to come right down to the jetty and deliver to the Brow. How times have changed. It sounds like a bad apple has spoiled it for the rest. Discipline is a nasty word in our world today and there are way too many officers and NCOs who would...
Merry Christmas from Halifax. (Good to see Trinity back on line....where you been man?)
Prayers are with our troops, sailors and air pers who are seperated by the miles from their families....God speed you all home safely. :cdn: :salute:
Yes that's a good thing when you're CLS but not when you're the CDS. If the attitude as CDS is that the other 2 branchs of the CF are simply there to get the Army where they need to go you will diminish the overall capacity of the organization. We still have one of the longest coastlines in the...
Tomahawk....this is the first CDS in living memory who has ever made any headway with popular opinion in Canada. Most Canadians don't even know we have an Armed Forces...believe me. When I joined the Navy in the late 70's my friends were astounded that we even had a Navy! For most people in...
My advice is "get thee to the recruiting centre and start demanding some answers" If I had been waiting two years I'd have given up or been asking some hard questions of the poeple at whatever CFRC I was dealing with. I went through the Reserve recruiting thing and when I finally asked them to...
One thing all of us have to realize is that this is not about popularity. It does not matter a rat's behind whether this guy is popular with the troops or the country or whatever...this is totally political. Gen Hillier made his mark by appealing to the Government of the day...which happened to...
Wow just started reading this thread tonight...more time on my hands now that I'm on leave...and I'm just amazed. I've certainly met my share of con men over my career as a man of the cloth, they tend to look us up in the phone book and run their game on us. That's why I never list myself as Rev...
+1 George. That's exactly what I hear from navy and air types wrt to Army centric and Leslie. I think Uncle Walt is the man for the job but they haven't asked me yet. ;D
I agree too. When I was in Esquimalt in 96-01 a guy jumped in front of a transport on the Malahat to commit suicide. The poor truck driver was never able to get behind the wheel again.
I saw that article here in the local paper this morning as well. I think it's great that there are still people around with the kind of integrity that this guy showed.
