    ESQUIMALT VS HALIFAX??

strike one disadantage for Halifax......they now have Sunday shopping. I've been posted twice to Esquimalt and once to Halifax. Halifax is easier to get to other areas of the world like the Eastern Seaboard of the US and the Caribbean (cheap flights out of the airport) You can drive to Central...

    Killing Canadians 'best way': student

I'm surprised that the Jewish Congress hasn't piped up about his hateful comments against the Jewish community. Maybe I'm missing that due to our/my  focus on his terrible comments about the military. I just hope they are keeping a close watch on this guy. I think he's probably a waste of time...

    Has rank been watered down?

The toque thing is funny I had an NCM at Gagetown tell me he was taught the same thing. I was walking off base one day and he sauntered by in CADPAT and toque. When I asked him about saluting he told me he was taught not to salute with a toque on. I told him he was mistaken...he snapped off a...

    Best Prime Minister

What about Louis St Laurent? The list of his accomplishments are pretty impressive....do you have a personal attack against him too? The interesting thing about people is that none of us are perfect...despite that we manage to get things done that benefit the rest of humankind Here's his record...

RMC Officer Sues to Avoid Saluting, Toasting Queen?

What do you suppose "Minister of the Crown" means? That is how all Cabinet ministers are referred to, they take an oath to Elizabeth when they are sworn in at Government house.

    Has rank been watered down?

Navy doesn't salute on board for the same historical reason you don't salute in the field (on the deck of a ship under attack you signal to the snipers in the rigging who the officers are)...that's not a lack of discipline....crossing the line ceremeony is an ancient tradition of mariners all...

    John Manley's Report On Afganistan-Due Jan 22/ 2008

It's a favorite tactic of the left to try and label an argument an "ism" ie racism, sexism, etc. They then believe that the debate is over and they have won.

    Flag question

Judging from my travels around the country it seems that people fly what ever the heck they like....Jolly Rogers, Confederate States flags. Union Jacks, Air force and Regimental flags, Mohawk Warrior flags....you name it, I've seen em flown. I really take issue with folks who fly the National...

    Has rank been watered down?

I think it is a little slacker today than when I first trained (1977 in Chilliwack) but I find that people respond if you remind them. I find the new CADPAT, which the Army and AIR force now live in, is difficult to see the rank sometimes....especially from the side and the back and the blue...

RMC Officer Sues to Avoid Saluting, Toasting Queen?

There was no school padre per se. The permanent chaplaincy was created after WW2. It was stood up like all the other Branchs for the Great War of 1914-1918 and after the war everyone went back to their home towns and parishes. Between the wars troops (what regulars there were, the number was as...

RMC Officer Sues to Avoid Saluting, Toasting Queen?

Sadly in today's military the mess is somewhat optional these days. You have to pay dues but it is possible to never darken the door. Mess dinners were mandatory when I served with a regiment in the nineties but in the Navy and Air Force they were on a voluntary sign up basis in recent years.

    John Manley's Report On Afganistan-Due Jan 22/ 2008

Excellent report. It's very depressing to read the comments on the CTV website though and I should know better by now than to read them. I agree with the "idea" of a Canadian surge but where the heck would we get the troops??  ???

Yes that's what most bureaucracies do with those who embarass them...promote them and send them to head office.
