    Sigs Question

Helicopters in Shilo? Dude, this is the Canadian army you're joining here  ;D Maybe later on in your career, if you're lucky.

Mail and care packages sent to BMQ / BMOQ

On my basic my mom always sent me socks. (Junk food and the such too, or course,) but socks- not the issue kind, but like white cotton ones- always seemed to go missing. And a handwritten letter was always nice. It's such a great feeling when the instructor comes in holding a pile of letters and...

    Fair enough.

    Passports for Tours?

I assumed he meant merit-listed in the recruiting process, and he just wrongly assumed he's going to be sent on tour as soon as BMQ's over.  ::)

    Orthotics in Combats?

Combat boots are issued with insoles separately (crappy ones, I might add,) so they're meant have some sort of insoles added. I wear orthotics with mine, and they fit fine.

    Pay Increase

$726.52 after taxes. ($858.79 before). Not too shabby for a Pte (2) reservist. ;D

    I'm new to all this

Dude, well STOP BEING SAD! If you can't do it yourself, get some help or something, (you mentioned you were on anti-depressants before.) You have to develop a stronger mindset before you attempt any army training, otherwise you'll be fucked from day one. The minute some instructor starts...

    Switching Trades?

See the "Occupational Transfer" thread under "Army Administration" for a start. If you don't find all your answers there, do a search.

Merged Quotes and Sayings Thread; some useful, some junk

Anyone who was on my BMQ/SQ will remember this, as it was one of THE course stories that everyone enjoyed telling. RSM inspection. The RSM's inspecting the token Russian troop on our course, and, on opening up the butt of his rifle, demands to know the whereabouts of said rifle's cleaning kit...

    second thoughts...

Go for it! Whenever I have a tough decision to make (not quite so life-altering, but anyway) usually I think of the following: If I do it, then I might not like it, but I'll either get used to it, and it'll make me a stronger person, or I'll suck it up and it'll be over soon enough. If I don't...

    Fighting at St-Jean

Well, you can always wait till buddy's up on the roof of the pod screwing in the whips, and... ;D (Note: that was a joke. Don't actually do that, someone on another course did that and it burnt the guy pretty bad, didn't throw him off the truck the way we've always been told happens though.) :D

Will there be a need for Officers in 3 years?

LMAO! So the rumours about officer training are all true then... ;D

    Fighting at St-Jean

I recall on my basic there being a certain individual (from another platoon) who kept picking fights with people, deliberately trying to get them mad so they would start a fight. Now, various stories went around as to what ended up happenning, but the words "charge," "summary trial," and "RTU"...

052 the Lineman IQ! (Sorry, had to stick that in. Can't have a thread about Comms and intelligence level without a crack about linemen.) Yes, yes we do.  ;D

    Leadership and Non-Issue Gear

Whenever we're out supporting a tactical setup, we always bring along a generator (actually called "tactical quiet": read the label.) It's main purpose is powering our (and the entire CP's) radios, it also happens to be frequently used to power such creature comforts as coffee makers and...

Advice for women on BMQ and other courses [MERGED]

Gel, gel and more gel, and bobby pins will be your new best friends. And a hairnet on top of the bun, nice and neat.
