Les - Finally got a chance to finish your book tonight. Thanks very much, it made for a great read. You write with that dry and somewhat jaded sense of humour that us colonials have come to expect from the Brits. :) I really enjoy reading first-hand accounts of peoples' tour experiences - I...
Sorry Les thought you had another published work. Bloody hell I'm tired today, and it's all your fault - I stayed up way too late reading.
One question though - what is a Geordie? It's not in the book's glossary and being a colonial I'm not familiar with the term. :)
The book arrived today! Looking forward to starting it tonight. Great photos included with the book too - nice full-colour glossy pics - well done Les!
EDIT - I'm 100 pages in now. Les I really like your writing style, you make me laugh while telling a great story. Well done lad. If you...
I'm not bothered by the shipping time. I know some guys at Amazon and they are all going nuts this time of year. Furthermore it's transatlantic and I didn't ask for expedited shipping. I will post when it arrives, so you can get an idea of transatlantic shipping times. Also I'm re-reading...
I don't know what it's called, but it's the one where Ludacris has those giant hands and he goes around smashing stuff with them. ANd he has a bunch of big'uns as his personal security detail. He keeps yelling "get back! you don't know me like that!'.
The song kind of sucks, but I always...
Rifleman - just ordered your book from Amazon.co.uk, looking forward to reading it (ETA - 9 JAN 07). I'll post a review when I'm finished reading.
Really enjoying the comments posted here though, keep 'em coming!
James,
My thoughts and prayers - and I'm certain that the prayers of the rest of the army.ca members - are with your brother and your family.
On another thread the total price of one kit was pegged at $600. I'm curious to know what Mike, the DS, and the members think about doing an army.ca...
captainj - I have two questions:
1. How much would one complete kit cost for an injured soldier?
2. Do you guys have a PayPal account or something similar set up for online donations?
Thanks,
Cpl Hunter.
(edit: I'm a CPL, not a COL)
Welome Les, looking forward to reading your book. Interestingly, I Googled the title/author combination and this discussion thread was the number one search result. Amazon was only second. :)
+1, x10.
I read the Guns of Normandy while I was over for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. It was particularly moving to read about good friends and good soldiers lost in the battle, and then read the same names on the tombstones at Beny-sur-Mer. it really drove the point home.
God bless Mr...

Another great soldier and great citizen goes to the ancestors. :salute:
I never met the man but from what I understand he was a truly amazing person. His 'Guns' trilogy is a phenomenal first-person account of World War 2, from...
1. I apparently do not spend as much time on army.ca as you, and do not spend my day poring over every topic. And this bit about you 'figuring' that I would be jaundiced, you've never met me so why do you presume to form any opinion on how I should think?
2. 'Go figure' was not related to...
The story was on the late news on CTV Ottawa last night, and given the lack of coverage by other media outlets, I suspect this was a 'local interest' story combined with a fishing expedition. I haven't been in touch with the cemetary administrators - I heard about the story last night around...
Inflammatory? How so? Perhaps it indicates surprise and shock, but I intended it as such, because I am suprised and shocked. Surprised and shocked at a policy, and also disappointed that a simple request like a maple leaf on a headstone would be denied. And the question marks to indicate a...
