A scary strategic problem - no oil

What?  I'm guessing you're pulling legs here.  If not, maybe take a peek at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_motion and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_energy.  I'm hoping you didn't mail the guy a cheque for #$29.95 for a copy of plans to build your own "overunity" engine...

    F-22 or F-35

Standby..... Nope.  Still no sale.  The IAF would like to buy one, and it was considered the same as the RAAF and Japan.  Export is still barred by federal law.  Congress would have to repeal or amend that law, and they have refused so far to do so.  Wanna know why?  Well, you want an F-22, but...

    F-22 or F-35

Neat discussion.  Thing is though, the F-22 is not authorized for export.  Period.  Congress does not allow export.  The RAF and the RAAF have both shown up on the US doorstep with a big sack of money (with big $ signs painted on the side) looking to buy a mitt full, but were out and out denied...

Damnit! Air Canada layoffs, bad for me but good for the CF

I can see how the signals appear mixed.  Bart's right in that the training taps are wide open and there's a push to develop the 100-ish new wing's grads this year.  The issue though is there had been a hiring push a few years back that the training mill wasn't ready for, so there's (I think) an...

Damnit! Air Canada layoffs, bad for me but good for the CF

I wouldn't sweat the re-rolls too much.  Those guys are great for the CF in that they come ready-trained (having completed BFT years ago) and well experienced.  They nicely flush out the tail end of the spectrum and provide very valuable experience at minimal cost to the CF.  What they don't do...

Damnit! Air Canada layoffs, bad for me but good for the CF

Fireball, you might get some points for perceived devotion/passion (so long as it doesn't come off as an unhealthy level of obsession). I've never sat on a selection board, I've no idea what they actually see as far as a file goes, but I'd wager it's a points ranking based on qualifications...

Damnit! Air Canada layoffs, bad for me but good for the CF

Meh.  Sure it's "good" news for the CF, it reduces the release incentive if civilian jobs are getting thin and job security is a bit more shaky, it might increase the applicant pool somewhat, and it'll probably bring in a few re-rolls.  I'd say it's a lot more "good" news for the tail end career...

    Made in Canada military aircraft?

Seems like a far way to travel to get a decent paint job!

    Made in Canada military aircraft?

I don't see it happening in exactly the same way I don't see a Canadian car company.  Funny when you think that Ontario builds so many vehicles and do it so well, but not one is a Canadian owned company (ignoring all the joint ventures/parts manufacturers/etc...). Having said that, isn't the...

Sure are some hard core "Hoo-AHH" posters kicking around.

    Career choices: More than 3?

Sure thing there buddy, I'm all grown up now. Wasn't flipping out or anything, just trying to point out you aught think a bit more before you speak....you came off a bit preachy and rather naive.  Good use of the crying icon there too....that's grown up....sure showed me.

Is the "Fifth Column" at work in Canada ?

Not to point out the obvious, but the job of the press isn't to report the "truth" to you, the press gets paid by selling eyeballs to advertisers, and there's an amazing amount of competition for those limited eyeballs.  Their job is to report stories that will generate those eyeballs, and when...

    Career choices: More than 3?

Wow....or sitting in a CF-18, loaded with weapons, intercepting a Russian Bear, or co-piloting a Herc (a low-responsibility job?) into Kandahar with a load of troops in the back (quite possibly your high-responsiblity Armoured Officer among them), or shooting a min's approach into Alert in...

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

Thought I should apologize for the "self righteous"...it just makes my blood boil to see an otherwise innocent question get gang-crapped on.  Probably a bit harsh of a statement to make on my part.

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

True.  Except, he'd then still have to pay for the residence back home.  There's no free lunch, you're on the hook for either R&Q or rent/mortgage back home.  It's a zero-sum game.

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

Still misses the point.  He'd (as a single guy) have to pay R&Q's.  That's not free....or cheap. Rations here are running around $425/month. Quarters maybe $100 - $250 depending on where and what's offered. It boils down to not crapping on the guy just because he's sweating his budget.  His...

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

Must be nice to be most people on the board here.  Lot's of self-rightousness at work.  Benefits do have a value, and so they should be factored in, but if someone's looking to drop $8K a year in salary, unless the prescription drugs and dental he's using now suck up $8K (ish, less taxes) in...

Just to clarify, what you're saying is you're upset?  Quit worrying about this guy, chill out and wait for the old Karma wheel to spin around.

Harper Outlines Canada's First Defence Strategy

Good Try.  How's about: 1. Executive 2. Legislative 3. Judicial The executive branch has final say on what the military does, the legislative funds it.  The GG represents the top of the executive branch (excluding the queen herself).  The military runs on order of the GG in a letter of the...

Harper Outlines Canada's First Defence Strategy

See....I thought the military (purely by law) was controlled by the Queen via the G.G. Yes, I know, the GG does what Parliment (and the government of the day) tells him/her, but the letter of the law is the Queen runs the show.
