I nearly puked when I saw that when I was leaving -- as of early spring, the new courses coming in were getting tacvests and cadpat raingear... How are they supposed to realize how much better new kit is when they never touch the old stuff.... We were 'slightly miffed' to say the least...

Hate to continue the treadjack but I just remembered (what I thought was) the most ridiculous thing leaving St Jean -- I kept my mukluks, but they took the duffel socks(inserts)! WTH??!  ;D

I know that many of us students at CFSCE in Kingston still have the old combat jackets - although when they have the ICES in stock they are happy to replace at QM. Then again, we (regf students in training) don't really need anything better then the old jacket. Let the kit go to someone who...

Having just finished POET, I can tell you that the courses running RIGHT NOW get at least one leave period of 5 days during the course. There would be absolutely no other time to go without being recoursed, you simply cannot miss 5 days of classes and pass. Period. The material is far too fast...

By the way - If anyone in the Kingston area hasn't heard - KMFRC has tickets for the insane price of 185, including transportation. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it, but it should be an awesome price and you can't beat the price. GO BOMBERS GO!

Understood - but as I said, do not RELY on it. I made the mistake of planning to use solely the cell phone and only found out there that I also couldn't charge collect calls to the family. Took 4 weeks before  I was able to go to canex to pick up a phone card. Have a backup plan, just in case is...

Leave it in your personal box - off. Chances are (at least in St Jean) that you won't be allowed it AT ALL for the first 4 weeks - get a phone card just in case. On my BMQ (and that of most people I know) all electronics were banned for a minimum of 4 weeks. This specifically included cell...

From experiances with people who were on my basic (grad Apr 07) -- the 3 clerks did not do SQ, but then again their 3's course was 2 days after basic. Two platoons after us however, their 2 clerks DID so sq. So it seems its a bit up in the air.

Word is (at least at 3 SQN) CFSCE - no living out on course for single members - makes it hard to give you inspections when your not there :P Would be good to know if its possible, seeing as I'm back here for LCIS 3's in a month or so... But judging on the fun you guys down the hall have been...

I don't know if this will help you, but we were given a briefing at the end of our POET course on equivalency (sp?) and getting credits for mil courses. The person giving the briefing repeatedly talked about ahuntsic college in Montreal as by far having the most knowledge in all military...

The way is was explained to us in BMQ about a year ago was that "we expect many of you to fail, and we need that kit for the GOOD soldiers who will replace you - and we don't want you marking THEIR kit up" Man, did my warrant ever know how to motivate us -- the timmies applications were a nice...

This is no longer true - The current wait from Basic - PRETC - POET is less then 2 months. I waited a month and a half, and all the other LCIS on my course waited 2 weeks tops, with some being out of basic for only a few days. So, 4 months basic + 2 months PRETC + 7 months POET = 13 months The...

Depends on your staff. One guy was caught with a jerky package sticking out of an open utility pouch and had to run 10 laps around the camp with his rifle above his head. Keep it out of sight just to be careful.

The current PT gear issued at St Jean is 4 grey t-shirts, 3pr shorts, 1 pair useless runners (read - inspection runners..) If you do bmq there, don't matter if your reg or res, thats what you get and wear. You WILL use that with the exception of the runners - if your a support trade unlucky...

Yeah... the gagetown list probably omits the stuff you won't be allowed to use anyway. PT gear, swimshorts... And things you won't use anyway... Either way, the stuff will come in handy if you pass basic at your next base.
