I am awaiting my background check as well, and it's going on about 7 or 8 weeks since they sent it out. I also have no criminal record or debt issues. Nothing you can do other than wait and check in on it's progress.

I applied on 06/22/2005, and have still not been merit listed. I am waiting for my background check to return. It's been the major delay thus far, even though I have no criminal record, have always lived in Canada, and have minor debt issues at worst. It doesn't look like I'll be merit listed...

Not that I have military experience yet to base an opinion on, but for me I think that both options are preferrable depending on age and where you are in your career. In my first X number of years in, I wouldn't mind getting posting to various places no matter what the distance from home...

I too am waiting for the call and going Combat Engineer. What are the chances of getting both the para and diver courses? Once you have one is it more difficult to get the other (because of increased responsibility)?

Yes, 043 is Combat Engineer. As far as I know, there is a board on October 17th. You might want to double check with a recruiter, but from what I've read Infantry positions are selected real-time, meaning that you don't need to wait for these selection boards, as soon as your application is...
