    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Over what wider territory??? Their role is to monitor fisheries on the Grand Banks. That is the territory they need to cover. They do that effectively now, those three ships are literally more than enough for the job. They just sink a little bit sometimes. As far as "numbers" goes, the coast...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

To what end? The role of those particular is to conduct fisheries patrol on the grand bank. They're effective now, and there's more than enough ships (for that role) two of them are just in need of replacement (One came close to sinking in St. John's harbour a few years ago due to rust out...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Cygnus, Cape Roger, and Leonard J Cowley, are the intended patrol vessels for the Grand Banks, though any one of the larger vessels may also find themselves filling in. Cygnus and Cape Roger are both in need of replacement, the Cowley is in good shape, but it's still 33 years old.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

The AOPS ice class isroughly the same as what the coast guard calls a "light ice breaker". Most of the coast guard light ice breakers are bouy tenders, they're typically tasked with ice breaking over the winter, but their primary job is bouy tending. To be effective as a bouy tender, you need...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Probably wouldn't be a good design to replace any existing coast guard ice breakers. Depending how they handle as sea boats, may be a good design to replace some of the old fisheries boats, and a good excuse to scrap the Grenfell.

Thank you for your military service — now here are 9 reasons why I won't hire yo

Alternately, use the same terms on your resume that are included in the job ad, that's what they're searching for.

Thank you for your military service — now here are 9 reasons why I won't hire yo

A-CR-007-000/AG-001 is (or at least was) the canadian published translating military skills to a civilian resume. I've got a copy around somewhere if anyone wants it. Just a note, even if it's "translated", don't put every course you've ever done on the resume, only the ones relevant to the...

Buying a new pistol- looking for feedback

That's too bad, that's how I ended up with an M&P9 ( which by the way is also a nice pistol, though I had to modify the mag release to make it more accessible, and a glock 17 is still on the "when I can afford it" shopping list)

So have you bought your new glock yet? Because... buy a glock.

Buying a new pistol- looking for feedback

If it is, it's a way bigger discount than they used to offer. More like $650, varies depending on model.

Buying a new pistol- looking for feedback

Apparently I missed a comma, should have been "military, police", not "military police". There was a bunch of other individuals entitled to the discount as well. I don't remember the prices but contact them and ask, they'll send you a complete price list. It's a significant discount, except...

Buying a new pistol- looking for feedback

If you're military police, or a bunch of other things, you can buy a glock straight from Police Ordnance (The Canadian Importer) with a substantial discount. Also you can't go wrong with a glock. They may not currently be importing all models though...

    What knife would you recommend?

Whatever is cheap, easier to replace when you loose it... If you want to get something nice, I was always a fan of the CRKT M16/M21 knives... M16-01S is a good knife (If you want "big" get the M21-02G, I have one of each), plus it's got the cool "one handed opening" factor... don't get anything...

Fed Ct: "Alberta soldier denied promotion due to PTSD should have case reviewed"

How many civilian employers have you had? You'd likely get the same response if your rank had been anything from "master-corporal" to "lord high admiral of the seas". Unless the position is for an employer who does contract work for the military, or the interviewer themselves has prior...

Fed Ct: "Alberta soldier denied promotion due to PTSD should have case reviewed"

Not really. If you're talking about civilian work, very few would know the difference or care about the distinction. Nor would it change his work experience/training received. So no, no real effect on resume.

    Coast Guard Forced To Lease?

There's multiple versions in use, the aluminium hulled version is about the same size, but has an wheel house on the centre of the port side, and has a stern roller fitted for laying bouys. Im almost certain the aluminium hulled barges have a rudder.

    Coast Guard Forced To Lease?

See attached photos of the CCGS Ann Harvey and the CCGS Louis S St Laurent. The Harvey has her landing barge (Aluminum hulled, probably about 20' long, has an engine and a small wheel house, with a short landing ramp forward and a stern roller aft) in davits just aft of her life boat. This is...

    Coast Guard Forced To Lease?

Not really, most of the existing coast guard ice breakers have a "barge" and an frc. They're useful for bouy laying, and useful for landing supplies/people ashore. Particularly in the Arctic where proper ports that can accommodate the ship are few and far between. Though aside from maybe the...

    Coast Guard Forced To Lease?

The lease is for tugs, not ice breakers... Specially, ocean going tugs capable of towing a large tanker or container vessel... http://tugfaxblogspotcom.blogspot.ca/2016/11/etv-on-horizon.html?m=1 I can't see them paying the day rate for the clipper and cutter, but with the slow down in the...
