    SMAW-NE

An experimental thermobaric round for the Carl G was built by Talley a few years ago, so there is no reason Canada couldn't have a similiar weapon.

    Hellcats and carrier

That's strange because the Fleet Air Arm was to a large extent using American aircraft at the time, including Hellcats, as well as Corsairs and Avengers. The British types in use were Seafires, which were continually having problems with their undercarriage (as well as being too short-ranged)...

Warrant Officers in the US and Canadian Armies - confusion re: status?

If they are commisioned, why not just give them the equivalent officer rank? Why have a two-tier officer corps?

    Suicide Bomber Hits UK Vehicle

It is my understanding, from reading posts on this and other sites (such as ARRSE) and reports in the media, that the Canadian battle group next year will form part of a British-led brigade, also including Dutch troops. Is this accurate?Apolologies if this post is redundant or violates OPSEC.

    The Ashes Series

Oh yeah? South Africans supporting Australia? Burn the heretics! Aussie is our greatest enemy in sport and always will be! I was hoping England would win, so were most people I know who follow cricket ... my Afrikaans isn't exactly fluent either(despite having grown up in a very Afrikaans town).

    The Ashes Series

Yes (I'm South African). Excellent stuff, good to see England doing well. Sad for Warne and McGrath to lose what will probably be their last Ashes(certainly in England), but Warnie especially played well and proved once again he really is one of the best ever. Saw the England victory parade...

    Why we need humvs.

I'm sure this has been asked before but why in God's name did the CF buy hard-top G-Wagens? The Germans (and pretty much everyone else who uses them-Norwegians, Danes etc) have open-top ones with a ring-mount for a .50 Browning or Mk19, an MG3/C6 for the co-driver and even some with a second...

    Tac Hel

The British Army has corporals flying helicopters, though these are mainly pilots still in training. The majority of their pilots are senior NCOs (sergeants, staff sergeants and WO2s), about 30% are officers. All Royal Navy and RAF pilots are officers.

Should TAC HEL be the only thing In the CF Helio World

Well isn't there the plan for the CF to get about 20 Chinooks? Remember those will (if they ever arrive) be used in a tactical role too, bringing troops directly into action, bringing in supplies, arty etc wherever needed. To me they are "battlefield" helicopters (as opposed to naval or SAR)...

    Ch-47 Chinook - Shipboard Capabilities

The Royal Navy has a relatively small (28 000 ton, 173metre) RO/RO and container ship, converted to an "aviation support ship", RFA Argus (ex-Contender Bezant). She is used as an aviation transport, aircrew training ship, combat transport, auxiliary aircraft carrier and hospital ship. Argus can...

Special Reconnaissance Regiment holds inaugural parade

These guys are going to be an expanded version of what was known in Northern Ireland as 14 Intelligence Company, who specialised in surveillance of terrorists. They will now presumably be doing this all over the world.More a Brit version of what was once called in the US Army the "Intelligence...

What book are you reading now?

Down Under by Bill Bryson. Travelogue/history of Australia, first of his books I've read, really enjoying it. Also reading The Last Days of Mussolini by F.W. Deakin, an account of the so-called "Salo" Republic the remaining Fascists set up in Northern Italy after Mussolini's rescue.
