    Int Op and Comm Research?

Sounds like the Comm Rsch trade might be the one for you.  We do more of the computer oriented intelligence stuff.  We could definitely make more use of your computer and linguistic skills than Int Ops.  I think that once you get in this trade, you'll find that you won't want to remuster to Int...

Conflict in Darfur, Sudan - The Mega Thread

I suspect that most will be attached to BGen Mitchell (Canadian Deputy Force Comd) in the Headquarters.

Difference between ATIS Tech, LCIS Tech and COMM RSCH

Why fix things?  It's much more fun to break them.  291 or 000120 as it is now known, is a very interesting trade.  We do have our own system administrators who run our networks, and we do have people that work in other areas with networks as well.  There is so many things to do in this trade...

Conflict in Darfur, Sudan - The Mega Thread

I think Canada will most definitely be getting in on this, we already deployed troops there in support of this mission.  I believe there are still some on the ground now.  It's called OP SAFARI. I think we'll committ something, Martin has basically already committed us.  I'd certainly pick Sudan...

    VC Won in Iraq

Quite an accomplishment indeed.....there were'nt any awarded to the SAS in Afghanistan, there has only ever been one awarded to a member of the SAS, a Major in Borneo.  I don't know how much longer they'll have the VC, there's only enough metal left from the two cannons to make 85 more.  I guess...

    Chinese Military,Political and Social Superthread

Definitely better work on your principles of marksmanship if we get sent to repel the Red Chinese.....with an Army/Navy/Air Force of an est. 100 million, and approx 150 million in reserve, we may be a bit outnumbered.  Let's see, around 50,000 in the CF...that equates to a ratio of 5000 to 1, so...

Amnesty International and the Canadian Forces

I'm a member of AI and a member of the Reg Force.  That being said, I'm not an overly active member, I just give them their $10 a month or whatever.  But I have'nt had any problems thus far, they seem to do pretty good work and when I signed up, they did'nt give me any grief about being  in the...

How Soon After Enrollement Can You Be Deployed Overseas

Well you can't just go on any UN mission...Canada has to have signed on to send some troops first.  There are'nt many UN missions that have huge Canadian contingents at the moment that I am aware of, if I'm wrong, please someone correct me.  There are plenty of opportunities to deploy with the...

    291 R? Will it happen?

I'm sure it will take a while to get the Res QL3 crse going....I can't see them loading any reservists on a reg QL3 because they tend to be very fluid in terms of length, can take 6 months, can take a year.  Hopefully they won't make the Reservists do the morse code portion and adapt the Res 3's...

    291 R? Will it happen?

As far as I know thats true....but that just came into effect this year for our trade, prior to that, as soon as you got your Cpl`s, you got spec pay.

    291 R? Will it happen?

Crow - I doubt that the reservists will augment the CDSE and SSE dets in Halifax and Victoria, but hey, stranger things have happened...there seems to be plenty of willing people to get posted to either coast though. Never got the brief on R291, but I would be interested in knowing how they...

    291 R? Will it happen?

Agree with you totally Crow They have the Res EW Sqn in Kingston that works with 2EW.....maybe they'll expand it out.  I've heard that they made all the ex-215ers there at Res EW now R291ers, but can't verify that the info is correct just yet.  I personally would like to see a healthy R291...

    291 R? Will it happen?

As far as R291 is concerned, they've already started it.  The first people to be R291ers are ex-Reg Force 291ers, most of whom retired and simply transferred over to the Reserves.  I just simply can't see a need for 291 dets in all the Reserve Comm Sqn's.  The only possible thing they could do...

HF - Lost art or Lost Cause

Some people seem to think HF is dead, but they tend to forget some of the countries that may not have the comms capabilities we do.  HF is still widely used in the world as it is relatively cheap and effective comms.  Plus when you get into things like tropospheric ducting and meteor burst, then...

HF - Lost art or Lost Cause

As for the discussion regarding the security of cell phones......no matter what the companies come up with for encryption or security, someone's usually figured out a way to intercept and decode it before it even hits the commercial market.  And the STU-III cells are useless, they're known far...

Conflict in Darfur, Sudan - The Mega Thread

We already have troops on the ground in Sudan (OP SAFARI) but at this point we've only committed to sending approx 20 people.  And the main snag with the process thus far is that John Garang has come out and said that he is unwilling to accept peacekeeping troops from any Muslim country, which...

questions regarding being a reserves advisor/tech advisor to a cadet unit

I don't think there is any limitation, simply talk to your unit's CoC about it.  Are there any tech advisors there now?  If so, contact the Senior Tech Advisor.
