JTF-2/Airborne destined for land north of Trenton?

aren't all those guys with the maroon beret's sporting regimental cap badges technically 'airborne troops'...just gotta get them all in one place again. Hooah...one regret I had after leaving the grunts was not going airborne...

Agreed, the gray hair epidemic is quite noticeable in the civil aviation sector. A majority of the work force will retire in the next 5 - 10 yrs and replacement workers are coming in at a very, very slow rate. The CAMC has put a plan into place to host mass immigration to fill the jobs. SAIT is...

No bubble to burst here, friend. We've had the recruiters in at least once a year over the past 5 years. I've never ever heard any recruiter offer a signing bonus to the AME students. The students we've had sign up bypassed most of the trades training and were given 18 months time credit towards...

Why not join the forces? They will credit you with time towards pay incentives and promotion for your civilian training and license. How do I know? I work at an ATO and we have several graduates join the forces every year.

Latest Threat to CF in Combat: Smoke Breaks?!?

Wasn't that the last big scandal...."Canadian troops go through huge supply of viagra and condoms."

Latest Threat to CF in Combat: Smoke Breaks?!?

too funny. I started smoking in Cornwallis. It seemed to us recruits that when a 'smoke break' was called, the non-smokers were often called on to do some kind of job. It paid to be a smoker.

Latest Threat to CF in Combat: Smoke Breaks?!?

From the perspective of air ops, if they banned smoking, where would one go to find enough troops to put together a tow crew or recovery crew? At least with the 'smoke tent' out beside the hangar, I always knew where my techs were.

Merged Quotes and Sayings Thread; some useful, some junk

heard this during morning inspection in Cornwallis in 1982... "BLOGGINS!!!!! Did you brush your g%#$damn teeth this morning.....you smell lie the North end of a South bound cow!!!" Also, our CSM in Dukes Company, 1 RCR used to like this one at the odd smoker or two. *takes false teeth out and...

    Worst choice..quitting the forces

I agree. Leaving is one of the largest regrets I have. I did it for good reasons at the time, but it never sat well with me. Since I left I've gone to University, College earned civilian licenses and have a very good job with security etc. I'm getting back in and am stoked about it...and scared...

Is it a good idea for a married couple to have the same trade?

My ex wife and I were the same trade. AET, she took FRP and I got AVN before I left. It did cause some problems after I got promoted. I was supposed to go to Yellowknife, but couldn't because it was a small unit and they didn't want her working directly for me. We were subsequently posted to...

    weight fluctuations (loss) during/after basic

when i was still with 1 RCR i used to keep a set of work dress and combats that were normally too small for me. After a long exercize, i'd lose at least 10 lbs and my uniforms wouldn't fit when we we got home. After a few weeks back in garrison, I'd start wearing my size 4 reg mediums again.

knee and/or elbow pads for the infanteer

wish we'd had them when I was a grunt...it's a fact....you take serious punishment to the knees and elbows...even when stuffed in the back of whatever troop carrier the gov'ment gave you that year... I actually took shrapnel to the knee on a live fire ex...don't think the knee pads would have...

Gift idea for son starting basic training?

i'd agree with the kit answer. They take away pretty much everything you own and allow you only a small amount of space for personal items. Save the Gucci kit for after. They like to see uniform and conformity in basic. A personal item to remind him of family when he leaves, something to show...
