    I'm a new member!

We need a smiley of an airplane (or something) going right over someone's head. Ah well, seems like harmless enthusiasm; I'm sure there'll be time enough for that to be drummed out of him - in here, if not in the CF itself.  Good luck in your new career, guys!  :camo:

    Liberal Party of Canada Leadership

Although, isn't that the demographic that elected Rob Ford in Toronto?  And I hear they've been having a few problems with him lately.  ::) At least we can't complain that our politics are boring.

    Application of CF IRP Policy

;D    And, yet another example of how some explanatory notes - the "why" of the policy - would be helpful, if incorporated directly into the policy document.

Fire extinguished at Saskatchewan potash mine (20 miners still underground)

Update - they're all out now, as of 2030 hrs CST.  Wonder what these 20 men experienced, in the 18 hours or so underground in their 'safe rooms'.  At least they had some comms right from the start.  Thanks for what you do, guys.  :salute:

Sun Media seeks a few good writers

I think the CBC is cutting, not hiring.  Anyway it's refreshing to see a news outlet calling for contributors.  And when this thread was "locked" over in the news board today and moved here, the # of views increased by a factor of maybe 90 in only a few hours - so that's good.  Nothing like that...

Sun Media seeks a few good writers

I wonder what they were getting at with this part:  "but you can bet your average CBC producer wouldn't be able to deliver that magic."  With all the freelance contributors these days, it seems to me there'd be as much chance of CBC, Sun or anyone else of having "independent thinkers, strong...

Reproduced here under the Fair Dealings provision of the Copyright Act. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/story/2012/09/25/sk-fire-potash-mine-1209.html I hope everyone gets back up top ok.

    Logistics Officer - Sea [Merged]

Yep, the days when you could become a Log O with a degree in languages/literature are probably long gone.  Good thing I got in when I did.  ;D Seawolf's commentary about maximizing your chances in the other parts of the application process seems sound.  Probably a good idea to highlight the...

    Outdoor Gear Thread

Beautiful kayak!!  Thanks for posting that pic.  (Reply # 34, on p. 2 of this thread.) I'm looking at buying one, finally - renting & borrowing is getting old, although it does provide the opportunity to try different kinds.  So far I like the Tsunami 160 w/ rudder; I was out on the St...

Class A reservists that need help

When I was on Class B at a major base in western Canada, I went through a crisis and in desperation called the base padre - I'll never forget his response:  "We don't deal with reservists."  I'll leave his name off here, but I'll never forget that either. This was almost 20 years ago; I'm glad...

    Sick Leave ( merged )

Thanks for that link, DAA.  Some good points in both reader responses. Civ employees have a certain # of sick days per month - for my group it's 1.25 days/month or 15 days/year.  (Not counting injury/illness due to work - that's different.)  After that, you can advance up to another 25 days...

    All things CF98 (merged)

  Sad but true...  DND is a big place with multiple parts who don't always know much about each other.  Once my entire med docs went missing for about a year, before a dedicated young PS employee tracked them down, in a place where they were not supposed to be. Always, always keep a copy...

    Class A over 16 days a month, Class A over 80 days a year

Not sure if this is still done, but various courses used to be run on weekends on Cl. A from time to time - including basic training, & others.  I took my Dvr Whl crse on weekends at the local armoury.  I was on Class B in the OR at the time, but most of my course-mates were taking the course on...
