    pistols/ hand guns

+1 On Ruger Mk2, my favorite plinking handgun.  They can be somewhat difficult to take down. After a .22 you should be able to find a decent used 9mm Hipower for around 500ish.

    How to pack a rucksack

I throw in weight plates in the ruck when I do ruck marches for PT, but in the field try go as light as possible (this doesnt mean throwing out essentials like a weaps cleaning kit tho). I used to pack lots of snivel kit when I first got in, but being the Platoon's C6 #2 got my priorities...

    ACU

I have a UCP Camelback, but I dusted it with OD Krylon because I felt the pattern was not optimal for woodland areas.

Kit Reviews, issued and non issued

Thinsulate Poncho liner from Brigade Quartermasters, easily 2 times as warm, and compresses smaller then the issued liner.  Coupled with a USGI poncho it makes a great sleeping bag replacement in warmer weather.

    Chest Rig vs Tac vest

Good point Mickey Im probably going to go with the SO Tech Hellcat Mk3 chest rig with a camelback, its a KISS looking rig and the 6 integral magazine pouches to help cut down on bulkiness.

    Chest Rig vs Tac vest

To be honest, ive tried several vests and didnt like them at all.  The setup im thinking of going to is a molle webbing setup, with Eagle H Harness suspenders, some kind of Molle modular belt, 2 HSG Mag pouches for C7 mags,  radio pouch, TT large utility pouch, rollypolly dump pouch, eagle LRRP...

    Question?

Having fired an FN-FAL a few years back, it is a good balanced weapon.  C7 is not less then half the weight of an FNC1, the C7 is around 9 pounds with the Elcan, and the FNC1 is around 10 pounds.  Both are excellent rifles, but there is a reason why most nations have moved away from 7.62x51mm...

    Stupid Newbie Question...

Personally if I had a choice I would go back to using my webbing for the field. On your webbing just be sure to secure the velcro straps on the back of all the pouches with guntape, and zip ties through the plastic attachment pieces, this will help keep the plastic fastener tabs from undoing...

    Chest Rig vs Tac vest

You might want to try a split front chest rig like the TT 2 Piece MAV, or SO Tech Hellcat MK3, the Hellcat has 6 integral magazine pouches.

    Stupid Newbie Question...

The webbing is a fine piece of kit for the field if worn correctly and is more modular then the TV, there is no way I would pay 80 dollars for the pos tacvest.

    Warm clothing for the field

Try a USGI Poncho+ranger blanket, for keeping you warm when your not moving or on sentry etc, the ranger blanket is issued and a USGI poncho is only about 30 dollars.  Stealth jackets are also a good wind blocker, if its cold out but I am moving, I find a stealth jacket, underarmour loosegear...

    Issue C9 Pouch

They will just take the cost off a new pouch off your pay, so no worries about having cash ready.

    Flash Lights

Ive been playing with my night ops gladius for about a week, and it is an amazing little light.  Its programable to different modes, and has a unique strobe function that is really disorienting for anyone on the recieving end >:D.  The best feature is the adjustable beam, you can go right out to...

Operator "Shorty" Tactical Gloves by Hatch Corp.

Try the Southwest Motorsports Friction Fighter gloves from Tactical Tailor.  Best pair of nomex gloves I ever bought, though they run around 100 bucks canadian.

    Maxpedition Cocoon Pouch

"What I really need is some way of making my kit grow and shed pockets instantly that are perfectly sized for whatever I need to carry, all controlled by my mind ;D" Its called molle ;) Pinky, if you want a better way of adding non-issued pouches to your vest, check out drop zone tacticals...

    Maxpedition Cocoon Pouch

Pinky, check out www.specopsbrand.com They offer 2 different types of light pouches. I bought the multilight pouch with the open top, and mounted it to the molle webbing on the front of the vest, fits my surefire G2 no problem.

    Not Just Another poll...

I prefer to keep everything seperate and compartmentalized with ziplock baggies, and place the ziplock baggies inside a garbage bag.  That way when i change socks I dont have to expose my 2x spare shirts/1x spare combats to the elements.  I dont carry underwear in the field in spring, summer...
