    SAR Tech

Howdy. My first thought was the bigger the better, as there is a lot of heavy sh1t in my job, and I'd love to have a sherpa of a team member to haul it all. I would not be surprised if you are within limits for the trade, we have some tall beefy fellers in the job, though not too many tall and...

    FWSAR (CC130H, Buffalo, C27J, V22): Status & Possibilities

Slap my backside and call me a donkey! you mean our technicians have been working from before dawn until well after midnight to just keep one or on good days 2 of the 5 Buffalo in Comox (plus the one constantly at Field Aviation) flying, when all they had to do was call the good folks at Viking...

    CH-148 Cyclone Progress

I hear your disbelief... for the record, since we have received modified tail rotors, have not seen any cracking problems on the "shag" for several hundred hours, restrictions are being slowly relaxed... actually have a few flying. Still has lots of issues but not as bleak as it once was

    After Action Review

American (Canadian too I hope...?) TC Medics use crics as their advanced airway of choice. It is quick and effective. Also use prophylactic chest decompression in any thoracic injury, the thinking being that the risk of inducing injury is much less than the potential benefit. Excellent post, I...

    M134D MiniGun for CH-146 Griffons

I have routinely used a 5 million candle power white light while pilots are on NVG, and it enhances their view. I am sure if you are shooting at things that are trying to kill you, pilots won't be too concerned about some minor light pollution. ;D

US commits to 1000 troops for Canada in Kandahar Province

Sorry if someone else has posted, I'd be surprised if not, but didn't find it, CTV broke this story on the late news last night. Article link: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080401/nato_afghanistan_AM_080401/20080401?hub=TopStories U.S. to provide 1,000 more troops in S...

    Cormorant Down-July 13/ 2006

It is all well and good to say that Canadian pilots should take more advantage of tha UK Simulator, but what isn't quite so easy to see is how little benefit there is into flying across 8? maybe seven time zones, (from Comox to UK) flying two days of simulator, then getting back into the jet and...

    SAR Tech

You can wear glasses and still be a SAR Tech. you can have laser surgery and be a SAR Tech. Talk to a recruiter. Good luck

    SAR Tech

It won't necessarily rule you out. I Believe (you will need to talk to military medicine on this) there was something come out that laser eye surgery was being studied for non pilot aircrew, as in they were allowing it to see how it worked out. For my trade, I am not sure, since disturbance of...

    All Things Flight Engineer (merged)

Maybe not now when they are shiny out of the box brand new, but give them a few hard landings, a couple fod incidents, a few changes in paint scheme, and I think the technical expertise of the FE will be missed. No-one does as thorough a walk around as an FE

    Found Airborne Coin

I received my coin in around 1990, and my # is 5418, or thereabouts (maybe 5481), so this guy is long in the tooth. There's reunion activities this summer in Ottawa and Edmonton, hopefully this guy will get the info. I'll spread the word @ commando.org.

    SAR Tech

PM me, and I will look into it... The date for the career info in Edmonton is March 4 and Wainwright is actually March 5, I was wrong yesterday, and have editted my original post

    SAR Tech

Not to say that the recruit office is the only place a plar can be done. I am not sure about Paramedicine, but I know that various regulatory bodies will (for a fee) review certification and experience and grant equivalency.

    SAR Tech

Not true. Plar is a tool used to establish if potential recruit has skills that can be accreditted toward trade. Ie journeyman mechanic would receive consideration towards vehicle tech training during a p.l.a.r.

    SAR Tech

If you are in the Edmonton area, there will an instructor from CF School of SAR at the Education and Career fair, or something like that, being held at the Edmonton Garrison on 4 March. He will be in attendance, manning a booth, and available to answer any questions. . I encourage you to make...

A few questions on the Engineer MOC

C'mon boys its ain't that hard, we had an infantryman as bridge commander during a gallop in... 91? in Pet. Maybe 90. Anyways the bridge crossed, we packed up, drank some beers, assaulted (like the police reports say, not battle reports) some reservists, and drove off to Cornwall for Op Feather...

    Aircrew Selection/ACS (Merged)

Take a guy from pri 2 SAR to teach (pri 1). I guess there aren't any pri 3 or 4 pilots left? who needs AC's in a SAR sqn anyway.
