    Promotions in the CAF [Merged]

Like Max said, you'll get lots of information from your career manager, but you won't see him until after you finish the ACSO course at 1CFFTS and are assigned to a community and even then it won't be until the career manager is visiting your unit. I can't access any of the CFAOs from home, but...

    Caffeine and athletic performance

He may be an idiot, but carbohydrate intake during a workout has been shown to increase the time to exhaustion in university studies.  A carbohydrate and protein drink consumed during a workout in a 4:1 ratio has also been shown to increase time to exhaustion and muscle recovery.  I don't know...

    Caffeine and athletic performance

I've seen some studies showing that caffeine can increase VO2 max in trained individuals.  The studies generally had pretty high caffeine doses (in some cases up to 10 mg/kg).  I think that a toxic dose of caffeine is somewhere around 20 mg/kg, and Health Canada recommends no more than 400...

    CEOTP 2009 Info/Questions

There are CEOTP at RMC?  That sounds very odd.  There should only be OCdts on ROTP and RETP entry plans there.

ROTP at Civilian University 2004 - 2018 [Merged]

Keep in mind that you don't have to serve all 13 years of a 13 year variable intermediate engagement.  You can be released from the CF, either at your request or the CF's.  Some restrictions may apply and I'll summarize them below. You will incur obligatory service for your subsidized...

    Air Navigators

In addition to what CDN Aviator mentioned, there are also ACSO positions on the air-to-air refueling CC-150T Polaris tankers.

    Air Navigators

That would be nice, but it will entirely depend on what comes out of the QS writing board for the new course.  Everything is purely speculative at this point.  IMO either eliminating visual nav or limiting it to what is done in Portage on the 6 LANTC flights would be best, but it really depends...

    Education Reimbursement/Taxes...

FWIW, a friend of mine who did ROTP Civ-U claimed the full amount of his tuition from his T2202A for several years and was audited a couple of years later and wound up having to pay a lot of money back.  With the penalties and interest it was far more than he'd received back as refunds.

    Air Navigators

Yep, another benefit we're looking for is decreasing the number of missed training days (which amounts to saving money as well).  We've been looking at getting a visual simulator or possibly using the one in Portage to reduce or eliminate the visual nav flights.  They wind up eating up a lot of...

ROTP at Civilian University 2004 - 2018 [Merged]

What province are you from?  It's hard to say whether grades would be the issue or not... 85% is a pretty good average, but I do recall from my orientation at RMC in 2000 that Dr. Weir said that the selection board had to adjust grades to compare applicants from different provinces. When I...

The same as all other officer trades with the exception of AEC.

Land engineering is a group of three MOSIDs, 00181, 00187 and 00341 which are Engineer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and Signals respectively.  As Mr. Wallace says, you should really do some research as if you don't even know what you applied for or were offered, there's no way you know...

    Aircrew Selection/ACS (Merged)

Honestly, if you're reasonably intelligent, have good spatial awareness and have recently done grade 12 math I'd say your chances of passing the exam are much better than 50/50.

    Aircrew Selection/ACS (Merged)

As was mentioned above, successfully writing the ACSO exam may make your application more attractive.  If you were DEO and only wanted pilot then you'd obviously not want to or not care about writing the ACSO exam.  The difference if you go to RMC is that you will be enrolled without an MOSID...

The Griffons Are Doing Some "Night Fishing"

I'm not contesting the bit about only US surveillance drones being the only assets to do it, but hellfire missiles have been used against insurgents planting IEDs.

So far only very minor changes that aren't really related to the name change (they would have been coming anyway).  The Qualification Standard for ACSO is going to be rewritten in the next year, so you may see a different course by the time you make it to the school.  I wouldn't imagine it will...

Overtraining: Just a running issue or more?

Over-training can occur in strength training the same is can in any other type of physical training.  Whether doing 2 sets each day to failure constitutes over-training for you is going to depend on a number of things including your current fitness level, the quality of your diet and how much...

    Regrets on Entry Plans

The same argument could be applied to the rest of the forces.  The CFPAS system continuously ranks people against each other.  At our unit all of the Capts were ranked this month within in the school and next month there is a Wing ranking.  I don't think that it makes anyone less of a team...

    Advice Needed - CT

I'm actually there now.  We've been seeing some more unusual postings recently.  There's one guy working with the UAV program over at the Air Div, there have been two guys that went to 437 Sqn to do Air-to-Air refueling on the CC-150 Polaris, three (I believe) have gone to 414 Electronic Warfare...
