"Army investigating members allegedly involved in 'abhorrent' Facebook group"

Maybe I am missing it but where does the article say that? Unless you just mean LCol Hendy? That was already reported on.

    Canada's tanks

Norway and Finland have been running South Korean K9 Thunder SP howitzers since 2016/2017. Both countries seem happy with their winter performance and have ordered more since the initial buys. India has also been running them on the ladakh plateau on the India Chinese border. High altitude...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

Yup, our flag on a NATO power point briefing deck was the objective. 5 corporals, 1 GOFO, 1 ship, a six pack of hornets, an infantry Coy, all independently achieved the same effect. There were statements to the effect that deploying 1 GOFO had the same military effect for Canada as deploying a...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Agree on the walk before run theme but we can’t take decades anymore. It seems Asgard went from zero to now very quickly. Announced as an objective in Oct 24, contracts signed in Jan 25, Prototype IOC in May 25. NATO signed its MSS contract in under 6 months.

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Hopefully. My understanding was that was looking more like a Cdn AFATDS type system. Still needed but these additional ones are another step beyond. Interestingly as well our program is allocated $250-499 Million Cdn, whereas, although not super clear, the UK Asgard Program has been allocated...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Here is an interesting aspect of the indirect fire modernization being undertaken in the UK. https://armyrecognition.com/news/army-news/2025/british-armys-new-asgard-system-delivers-tenfold-firepower-on-the-battlefield It’s not just the munitions or munition launcher anymore. The Israeli IDF...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

https://archive.is/IUHvW#selection-2435.0-2435.99 Interesting Globe and Mail article with specific comments from the Industry Minister. It’s interesting in conjunction with one of the recent episodes from On The Line with Glen Cowan. On The Line: A wartime effort, for war ... and for housing...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

I just looked up the history of the 6th and 7th Canadian Divisions. I think it’s interesting that the Canadian Army has decided to call their new structure divisions the 6th and 7th vs retaining two of the current division names. The choice seems to have been made quickly with little...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

No real reason we couldn’t do that. It would need to be done with forethought though. Identify now that in 2028 Unit X will be deployed on Op Y as roto 28-02. Give them three years to get ready.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Interestingly the difference between max standard Cpl and max standard Sgt is $887. Shrinking that doesn’t seem like a great idea. As for allowances for specific positions, ie instructors; I am not sure I am supportive of it. If an individual had a greater ability to control their postings...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I found this part most interesting. Sounds like the pay difference between junior and senior ranks is going to shrink. After this is all done and CFHD is taken into account I wonder what the difference between Cpl and Sgt will be.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

It’s ridiculous but it seems Canada is already counting over 60% of the Coast Guard budget as defence and has been since around 2022. How that is justifiable in any way is incredible. Doesn’t speak to any actual seriousness in capability but rather only political theatre.

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

So currently we have a system where an organization, CMTC via the Army Collective Training Authority, works to design and implement collective training force on force exercises. These serve to validate the units and formations undergoing them. However despite observing and coaching the PTA...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

There are a couple interesting items here. I think though it’s pretty light on details of how the Army is looking to modernize given some of the decisions already made. However interesting items. 1. The interview would seem to indicate that the CA views the Latvia based forces as the trials...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

Interestingly perhaps we could ask two questions. 1. Why do all our peer allies armies have collective training centres that assess their formations combat abilities against doctrinal standards? As does NATO. 2. How many Canadian Army units and formations have been assessed as needing...

Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

I don’t agree fully with this in terms of combat capability. Our commanders are trained effectively to be institutional leaders, however the Bn and Bde Comd need as much training as our sub unit and Pl Comd do in terms of actual combat capabilities. The capabilities needed of the higher level...

Infrastructure for existing bases and training facilities Munitions for all elements Networks, data links and the associated bearers. Fill in the equipment capability gaps in the current CAF units and formations. There will be no additional money once you address those four items.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

So from various articles it seems the highest estimates are an increase of 9.3 Billion. 2.6 Billion for pay and benefits 2 Billion for security cooperation with Ukraine 2.5 Billion coming across from the Cdn Coast Guard? About 2.2 Billion unaccounted for DND to expend on increased...
