Who here has a Cadet Medal, what is it, and what did you have to do to get it?

Cadet Medal prerequisites are in the CATOs, which are available online or at your local unit.  I'd post you a link but it seems the Cadet website is currently down.

    JLC / SLC 2005 (Blackdown)

Not everyone can be a CWO, but everyone should strive to do their best and aspire to be a CWO or RSM.   Another thing, I'm pretty sure CWO Wilson was not the RSM.

Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre

At Blackdown Alpha Company is CLI D&C (not DnC), they form two guards but are all members of 4 platoons within A Coy.  B Coy is CLI Adventure, etc.

    March Break Trips

The ferret club (formally known as the Ontario Regiment Museum) is some civilians, military, CIC, or former military that volunteer their time to fix and maintain the vehicles there.  My cadet corps is not officailly involved with the ferret club, however we do training down there and some of...

to all Mcpl's what duties do you carry out

Oh I completely agree ... one does not need a rank to do a job (you don't have to be a CWO to be RSM).  You can be given the appointment and responsibilities but hold the rank in acting or not at all.

    Corps attendance

Brampton is a suburb of Toronto, although there is an abundance of cadet corps in Toronto ... I believe Brampton only has the one Army corps.

    March Break Trips

My corps is going up to Blackdown to run our Junior and Senior Leadership Courses.  It's something that started with just us but now includes several other corps, it's an excellent way to build the leadership potential in our NCOs.  The corps that will be there this year are: 41 Ontario...

to all Mcpl's what duties do you carry out

I'm sure every corps has their strengths and weaknesses ... and their few cadets that "fall through the cracks" of the national prerequisites.  That's normal for a cadet corps, their numbers can change so much in a short time ... so of course the corps must "adapt and overcome" and carry on with...

what do you hope to gain from cadets?

You may have stiff competition now, but years down the road there will be less of these people left in cadets and often many people change greatly as they become senior leaders.  From when I joined cadets there are 2 others that started with me, and there are 2 more that joined before me. Also...

    traditions in your cadet corps

That's not really a traditio. When we are in combats I give pushups (that are optional) at the end of my NCOs parade (NCOs are inspected by RSM prior to inspecting their cadets) to encourage the cadets to develop their physical fitness.

Well last I heard he is now a 2LT (could be a LT by now) in the CIC with my sister corps #41 Port Perry.

to all Mcpl's what duties do you carry out

Just a point, summer training is no longer a prerequisite for any rank.  Without NSCE you can get up to WO.  Also each unit has a quota for how many of each rank MCpl and above they are allowed to have.

what do you hope to gain from cadets?

There is always room for improvement, even I still find myself learning and improving on my own leadership, abilities, and personal confidence.  Also your still in the first few years of your career, keep working hard and towards the end of your time in cadets (provided you stay in) you will...

    Cadet Dress in Public

This is something that should be covered in cadet training, however there are always people who will act or consider themselves a member of the CF.  From what I have observed, A majority of cadets understand that they are cadets and not members of the CF ... but there are always a few that make...

what do you hope to gain from cadets?

I had hoped to achieve all of the topics listed, and nearing the end of my career ... I actually have achieved all of those things. I joined cadets because my grandfather was a CI and wanted me to, and my brother was a Pte at that time.  I joined with one of my friends who quit a few weeks...

    Cadet Dress in Public

However it seems that CF recognizes the cadet officers are part of the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC), which is an official branch of the Reserves.

    Staff Cadets at NSCE

Here in COA they employ 4 RSMs just to keep the candidates behaving properly and get them where they need to be.  Each RSM is in charge of a platoon of NSCE candidates.  This year however, due to a lack of an available female RSM ... they employed my DSM as a NSCE staff cadet.

Interestingly enough the person I spoke of in my other post received it for saving her mother from drowning.
