    Habemus Papam

IIRC he was an HJ for two years which was not surprising being that age at that time... what with it being 'non-optional' and all that. He also served for a few years before deserting in 1944 and ending up in a camp himself if memory serves. So, while one might be tempted to joke and say things...

    Interesting Dates.

So Tommorow is 20 april 2005, making it the 116th aniversary of Hitler's birth. Ok, so no one knows, and fewer care. Interestingly enough it is also 4.20 the 'holiday' where greasy long hared hippy types go out in public and get stoned (hopefully arrested too). Interesting that those XXXXchose...

Will there be moments during BMQ...

Very much like it aounds. You are subjected to power-point until quitting life looks appealing by comparison. But then, no one likes a quitter so you  suck it up and bitch about it on an online forum later.

I wouldn't be envious of that. I have prommised myself to quit when I notcie adverse effects on my PT. Having not, I find no motivation to quit.

    Soldiers who smoke

Did the exact same thing after the ruck/firemans carry on my course. Got voluntold to be marker missed the "expend all remaining ammo", bit due to a task I was handed and ended up carrying a a C9 AWA a few boxes. It was a good go (that'll teach me when to keep my mouth shut...well probably not)...

    Changing One Thing

MORE COURSES!!!! (Especialy in the reserve) People willing to take any course they can get should not be sitting in Garrison getting ~ 1 or less a year. Also in the reserve, I'd love to see the availability of taskings increase for us non-leadership types. As it stands now, I have next to no...

Will there be moments during BMQ...

I was about to say the same thing about never thinking of quitting during BMQ or SQ, but then I remebered the 'PowerPoint Marathon of Death' and 3 straight days of first aid.I wasn't so much thinking of quitting the army as I was thinking of poking my eyes out with that sharp thing attached to...

    ROMEO DALLAIRE-5 YEARS OF DISCUSSION

Yes, that is exactly my position. ::), except for the fact that I have maintained all along that he is not a "hero", and that he had several failings including this one which I believe I was the first to mention. I am pretty damned sure I was also quite clear in stating that he freely admits...

Army guys, what is your regiment (or, for cadets, what regiment you are affiliated to)?

RE: the Van Doos, I don't doubt it. If that is the way the directing staff feels I will, as you say check it at the door. I will not, however apologies for my feelings or attitudes in this regard. If the statement was taken by others to be inflammatory (it was not intended to be), I might...

    ROMEO DALLAIRE-5 YEARS OF DISCUSSION

Situation is, as you say, quite different. Given the political and popular attitudes in Belgium after the death of Paras, or in Canada after the blue on blue incident, i'd say that the probability of avoiding bias in the trial of either situation was asymptopicaly approaching zero. Believe...

    ROMEO DALLAIRE-5 YEARS OF DISCUSSION

Red it. While many of the criticisms are well founded, it leaves out a few important things, and therefore I will henceforth refer to it as an expedient editorial rag. 1.) He's the first to admit to most of the failings, both personal and operational addressed in the rag. 2.) He takes...

Won't Stand on guard for thee - a man's opposition to the Canadian flag & anthem

For starters, because a country needs a national Identity, and if your going to be a citizen you should recognize your primary allegence to the country. Canada is a multi-ethnic multi-cultural country. There is not a problem with recognizing and accepting difference, and it needn't conflict with...

Won't Stand on guard for thee - a man's opposition to the Canadian flag & anthem

Wow quite the read. I had a long reply written, but upon editing it, I realised that I could not restrain myself from swearing every second word. I'll Try again later when I have cooled off some.

Not so much areas as time-frames In the spring of 1916, The states had a pretty green army The learning curve was pretty steep. I agree with you almost entirely regarding WWII Now I am not up on my diplomacy in the 20s, but I think the statement was made in an analysis of grand-stratagy, at...

Army guys, what is your regiment (or, for cadets, what regiment you are affiliated to)?

I once looked at a Van Doo. He made me cry... ::) I would hope that everyone else felt the same way about their regiment. That's part of the reason for having a regimental system.
