    What happened to Recruiting Standards?

I'm not sure what partial glimpse into the collective performance of Combat Arms Officers you've had, but it certainly doesn't jive with what I've been exposed to. You're speaking as though the relative few under performers make up the majority, and it's simply untrue. It's not a matter of fit...

    What happened to Recruiting Standards?

Failure in and of itself isn't indicative of a successful screening process unless you look at why people are failing. The CF is also presently dealing with cleansing poor attitudes and behaviors that were once found to be acceptable in past generations of mbrs. So while I can agree the...

    Questions about joining the Reserves

Not at all. Life experience counts, but it should be applicable to leadership and the job you're applying for.

    Questions about joining the Reserves

Your hobbies will have no bearing on whether or not you get Gucci courses unrelated to your trade, and bungee jumping certainly isn't a skill recruiters are looking potential recruits to have.

    Combat Boots policy 2018-CANFORGEN 127/18

Officers who think it's reasonable to add a $400 piece of optional kit for walking to/from their car.

    CAF Beard policy-CANFORGEN 158/18

By what metric are you using to determine scruffy, what density of facial hair is required before it's a beard?

    CAF Beard policy-CANFORGEN 158/18

"something something discipline, or lack thereof if the troops don't shave." - Undisciplined CO/RSM/CWO ignoring direction from higher authority

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Since it became the most convenient definition to benefit the predetermined outcome.

    CAF Beard policy-CANFORGEN 158/18

Interesting, Cold Lake finally caught up with this. Except that the WCWO finished off his speech of all the direction necessary being in the CANFORGEN, with something to the effect of "people who wish to shave and regrow, shave and regrow will be dealt with individually." The ones who choose...

Physical Fitness (Jogging, Diet, Cardiovascular, and Strength )

Where are you seeing a 2.4k requirement to join the Forces? The only place I'm aware of that distance being a standard is in selection courses which don't apply to you. Work that 5k time, you sound like you're already ahead of the curve a year out.

    CAF Beard policy-CANFORGEN 158/18

Yet several locations have already told their people to wait out, continue shaving until further direction can be given on how they'll enforce this policy.

Are There Reserved Parking Spaces on Canadian Bases ?

Visit Cold Lake, there are units there where nearly every WO in the hangar has a parking spot assigned to them. I'm not sure who started it, but it sure does create a lot of entitled nobodies.

    Cheating on cfat

Looks like we dodged a bullet with this one, BZ recruiters.

Am I too old, unfit or uncertain?

I'd vary your running up a bit, running 5k's 3x a week isn't optimal training, and it's certainly not what people who want to improve their 5k's do. Add some LISS running into the mix, and a substantially shorter track interval workout and I guarantee you'll see substantial improvements to your...

    Was it worth it?

If purpose and brotherhood is what you're looking for, yes it's here if you seek it and work hard for it. Judging by your success, I'd say you have the motivation to achieve those things in the Forces, you'll just have to be willing to put in the time before you get there. There is a lot of...

    Unit PT - Best Practices

Ballz you can come to my unit and run PT any time. Throughout my years in the CF, I've met very few leaders who actually know how to increase the physical fitness of their people. Too many supervisors beasting their guys under the guise of training, and PSP leading groups through workouts which...

    Unit PT - Best Practices

Maybe running isn't, but it's probably the easiest test for a mbrs aerobic fitness you can conduct. There's a reason it's first in nearly every fitness guide in the Forces in terms of prioritizing training.

    Unit PT - Best Practices

Are you suggesting we test groups instead of individuals? I'm all for group efforts, but there is no rationale argument to remove testing an individuals performance.
