RPAS (was JUSTAS): the project to buy armed Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

I agree that the best option is a manned patrol aircraft with a strong sub surface patrol force. But that can't be done with only 10 rebuilt CP-140's, 3 2nd hand SSK not enough crews and no base of operations.  So why not do something like this, -divide up the Arctic into patrol zones -organize...

RPAS (was JUSTAS): the project to buy armed Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

so the problem is line of site, one satellite can't cover the area and any plan involving satellites is extremely expensive. Ground stations have limited range and need a massive amount of support and are limited to line of site. So how do we relay information to and from the UAV/UCAV in the...

    Life on a Submarine ?

I have no navy experience so I'll ask a question and if it's dumb let me know, why can we not build our own subs based on the Victoria class while we have the time to do it?

RPAS (was JUSTAS): the project to buy armed Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

look my point is what good is it to track an unknown either under the ice or in the air if when god forbid the time comes to shoot at it you can't if you don't also have the ability to do so.

and in this day and age if you are tracking it what do you do if you have to shoot at it if it shoots at you .. tell it to stop and invite it in for tea?  How well do you think that will work? (STOP!... OR I'LL SAY STOP AGAIN!)

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

From what I've been reading here it is coming down to the F-35 or the Supper Hornet block 2 (or 3 if it ever gets built). The next question is how many do we need of each or is a combination of the two diffrent capabilities the way to go? ideas.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

This is what I think, in the arctic our main concern for a fighter would be air defence right? Then buy enough super hornets armed with meteor BVRAAM this will negate the lack of stealth.  Then we would need to buy a fighter that is lighter and less expensive.  We have used this before with the...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

I'm looking at my atlas and it seems to me that there is a huge amount of space between airfields , I'd rather my son be flying on 2 engines just incase he flames out or who nows what goes wrong. By the time we get a new fighter it will be our kids  who will have to fly it. I'd like to give them...

RPAS (was JUSTAS): the project to buy armed Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

OK lets say that you do find a sub under the ice sheet with a uav, here is the problem if you want to sink it from the air first you have to get there with a MPA, second ice is hard how do you propose dropping a torpedo through the ice without the torpedo breaking up on the ice on impact.  It...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

We don't have to commit to the F-35 until 2012 right?

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

A uav/ ucav have their place I'd rather send them in to punch holes into a first class air defence, but they are man made machines how secure are they from hacking?(I have no Idea on this and any information would welcome) Besides how much better than a light fighter in price and capability are...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

yea the price would come down. I've read in Jane's that if 100 more raptors could be sold that the flyaway price should be about $99 million US per aircraft. But from what I've read here and on other sites there is some concern that the f-22 is very limited in its ground attack capabilities. If...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Our only other options in the twin engine category are the Rafale and the EJ-2000 typhoon.  From what I've been reading in previous posts I think it's safe to say that any thing except the Rafale is preferred.  So how about the eurofighter typhoon? ideas?

    Global Express Rumours

Yes you are right the CofG is key and it is one of the things we discussed, a fuel management system could keep the CofG within limits by moving fuel automatically or manually between tanks in the fuselage.  We also discussed having to add a fuselage plug forward of the wing to compensate for...

    Global Express Rumours

I didn't mean to make it sound that easy because it wouldn't be ,  I discussed this with family that work a De Havilland..According to my 2 sources the wing could be strengthend as they did with the global express.  The wing root  and main spar would be much bigger as would be  the flight...

    Global Express Rumours

I think that we can agree that any weapons would have to be carried on the wings as electronics and crew would fill the cabin.  Thoes wings would have to be either rebuilt or built new to carry weapons and sensors to support the extra weight  and stress of manouvering at all altitudes.  This...

RPAS (was JUSTAS): the project to buy armed Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

Ive been slammed for this before but this is what I think,  I agree that number does seem low for what is in effect a 3 areas of operations. 1 Atlantic, 2 Pacific and 3rd the Arctic.  Currently we have 18 airframes (CP-140) for the Atlantic and pacific plus foreign deployments. Of those maybe 10...
