RPAS (was JUSTAS): the project to buy armed Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

According to the Canada fist defence policy the government plans to acquire 10-15 MPA if seen a budget of $2.5 billion but that seems kind of low to me.

Close Air Support in the CF: Bring back something like the CF-5 or introduce something with props?

I'm all for 30-40 AH-1Z rather thanAH-64's, we just have to make sure that they will be able to fight where they are needed without having to mission adapt everything.

lets face reality, how long did it take to replace the seaking? the army was going to get the MGS instead of the leo 2's they needed we need to plan now expecting a 15-20 year wait for the kit we should have had 5 years ago. The AT-6C was an idea to get some capability and develop it.

    A possible C-130H Replacement?

Not implying that it can the Herc is hard to beat, what I'm thinking is what is the c-130 doing that is better done by other airframes.

Not expecting them to I used a bad example.  DND is buying some very expensive helicoplers and no escort for the helicopters or the troops they carry.

Close Air Support in the CF: Bring back something like the CF-5 or introduce something with props?

An attack helicopter would be best I agree and we should have that capability but to give some capability a turboprop can be fielded faster, this is dependent on operational requirements, if we have 10-15 years the helicopter is the way to go. However if we only have 2 years then the turboprop...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

The JSF is listed as $88 million (US) but that is for a LRIP of 6 aircraft.having some B model JSF would be useful but I don't know about servicing requirements.  I think there are better options for Canada, maybe a 2 aircraft type fighter fleet might be a better approach. my choices would be a...

    A possible C-130H Replacement?

why not kill two birds with one stone, replace the remainding 'H' hercs and Buffalo's with the c-27J? not entirely a one for one exchange but it's better than nothing.  Don't forget 5 of those 'H' models are tankers that will have to be replaced as well.
