Too true. It was very handy for the time leading up to it's theft. I killed a lot of 550 cord with it. I also sharpened a stick to make it pointy, and carved my initials into a tree while on an OP (which I later got yelled at for). Yup, sure was useful.

I guess this must have changed int he last few years, I did my Co-Op BMQ at 16, with parental consent, in 2007. I turned 17 right before I finished my DP1 Infantry. I am in roughly the same area as yourself (Kitchener). However, if the guys on here are saying 17, I would take their work over...

We get to carry the 60, and the Carlo...but no ammo! And we can't be trusted with the slings for either, apparently. Slings would make us happy and comfortable, which would adversely affect our combat effectiveness, apparently.

Tell me about it. Just got a TRG EX in Borden. Decided I would pack "light" for the weekend, seeing as it was nice out. One 522 and 6 Batteries later, my ruck was anything but light.

Light infantry. I wish we had vehicles. CQ certainly did lots of "field supplies" with them, such as Glowsticks, Generators, Laptops, and Projectors. None of which help me cut trees apart, unfortunately.

When I first joined, I wanted grenade launchers and fore-grips and ACOGs and everything else I could get my hands on. Now, I'm happy if I can swap my Elcan for a flip up battle sight.

Necro'ing an old thread, but still relevant. I have had these exact boots for a year, and I am supremely happy with the comfort factor. However (and this is a big however), they deteriorate rapidly, and they are water magnets. Walking through a field in the morning mist will soak your feet...

We had a guy bring a Machete to the field. Everyone laughed at first, then we borrowed it to make improvised defensive positions. I think we should all be issued battle axes. There is no problem in life you can not solve with the appropriate amount of battle axe.

The Infantry will become what you make of it - effort in, reward out. But as others have said, you seriously have to realize that the Army (Infantry included) is NOT a regular job. People do not interact with each other in the same way, work is not assigned in the same way, and everyone is...
